Ninja Theory has shared a heartwarming message the day before the anticipated release of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. The head of the studio behind the psychological Norse action series has shared his gratitude for all the love and support given by gamers over the five years of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2's development.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice transcended the typical expectations of an action-adventure game when it was released in 2017. Working with neuroscientists and mental health specialists to accurately portray Celtic warrior Senua’s psychosis, Ninja Theory created a striking story that is as much psychological horror as historical fantasy. Building on the first game’s haunting cinematic graphics and award-winning sound design, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 promises to deliver even more impressive visuals and deeper combat mechanics made possible by Unreal Engine 5.

For those who are looking to learn more about Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, here are all the essentials they need to know.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will launch at the same time across the world on May 21. In anticipation of the release, Dom Matthews, the Studio Head of Ninja Theory, has just shared a heartening message on Twitter thanking the game’s fans and developers for all of their support and hard work. “I’m very proud of the game,” says Matthews, “very proud of our team and very proud of you, our fans, who have supported us on this magical journey.” In an era when so many studios are being hit by cuts and layoffs, it’s encouraging to see a studio head’s public appreciation of their team’s efforts, one which has grown in size and scope following the success of Senua’s Sacrifice.

Ninja Theory's Message to Fans

“Making video games is difficult,” admits Matthews. “Much like Senua, we as a team have been guided by a conviction to achieve our quest: To make a game that sinks you deep into Senua’s world and to take you on a journey that leaves you thinking and feeling.” Ninja Theory does seem to have prioritized players' needs when making Hellblade 2. The studio has already shared the game’s thorough list of accessibility features and confirmed the return of fan-favorite features such as the comprehensive photo mode, which will allow fans to fully appreciate the impressive graphics and near-lifelike fidelity of the game’s character models.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will be released on May 21 for PC and Xbox Series X/S and will be a day-one title included on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Unlike the first game, Senua’s Saga will not be coming to PlayStation, following Microsoft’s $117 million acquisition of Ninja Theory in 2018. However, there may be some hope for Hellblade fans on Sony’s console, as rumors have been circulating that Microsoft is considering a future release of Hellblade 2 on the PS5. Given Phil Spencer’s recent comments in favor of multi-platform gaming and the success enjoyed by Microsoft’s other first-party games on PlayStation, such as Sea of Thieves, this possibility cannot be ruled out.
