Hearthstone just released a completely absurd parody video featuring the Dark Titan Sargeras as Bob Ross. This unhinged comedy piece was created as a part of Hearthstone’s marketing for Titans, its newest expansion pack.
Titans is the second set for Hearthstone’s Year of the Wolf in 2023. The 145-card expansion, set to release on August 1, features a unique Titan and Keeper Legendary minion for all 11 classes, the new Forge keyword, and support for the Mech creature type and Magnetic keyword. To build hype for the expansion, Hearthstone has been doing all kinds of things, including a Titan popularity contest.
However, Hearthstone’s latest publicity stunt was something truly absurd and hilarious. In a recent video it published on its official Twitter account, Hearthstone shared a parody skit featuring the Dark Titan, Sargeras. The clip introduces Canvasing the Cosmos, a fictitious art show inspired by The Joy of Painting–Bob Ross’s famous instructional painting show from the 80s and early 90s. Besides some impressive face, horn, and nail makeup, the actor is sporting a button-up shirt and wig reminiscent of the legendary painter.
The skit opens with Sargeras talking about himself and the history of the Burning Legion of World of Warcraft before he starts his painting. He introduces hilarious color names such as Fel Flame Green, Utter Despair of a Broken World Black, and Periwinkle before he begins a short-lived painting of his own. Sargeras’ search for inner calm through painting was referred to as episode one of this series, but it remains to be seen if this is a one-off joke, or if Hearthstone has other similarly-unhinged comedy skits in store for players.
Needless to say, players got a kick out of Hearthstone’s bizarre comedy skit. Though they agreed it was incredibly cursed, bizarre, and reminiscent of Adult Swim-style humor, fans couldn’t help but laugh at it. Considering World of Warcraft’s recent social media posts about popular memes, it seems the community teams at Blizzard know how to get fans talking and laughing.
The release of Hearthstone Titans is right around the corner. Many cards in this new Hearthstone set introduce brand-new archetypes or reforge existing ones with exciting tricks that have never been seen before. Players can get their first taste of the new meta of Titans during the set’s Theorycrafting Stream on July 26 at 9 am PST, where players who watch a few hours of Hearthstone on Twitch during the 24-hour period get two free Titans packs.
