Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has teamed up with HBO to produce a new show currently titled Tre Cnt. Johnson is attached as an executive producer for the show alongside Issa Rae and Danny Garcia.
The show will tell the story of Cassius Jones, who is described as a struggling pro wrestler and dock worker in Houston’s Third Ward, also known as The Tre. Alongside a life insurance payout and some help from his friends and neighbors, Jones attempts to kickstart a hip-hop inspired backyard wrestling organization.
Tre Cnt is written by Mohamad El Masri, who has previously worked with HBO on Here and Now. Johnson also has a history with HBO, having executive produced and starred in the series Ballers, which ran for 5 seasons.
At the time of writing, there is no information on casting or when production may begin shooting. However, given Johnson’s penchant to appear in movies and TV shows he produces, fans can probably expect him to have a role in Jones’ story -- however whether it’s as a supporting character or one of the main cast remains to be seen. Given Johnson’s own history in pro wrestling and WWE, no doubt Tre Cnt will draw heavily from his own journey and experiences.
Tre Cnt isn’t the only wrestling show Johnson is currently working on. He is also producing a show called Young Rock, which will be an autobiographical comedy series detailing his childhood and first forays into the world of professional wrestling.
Tre Cnt is in development at HBO.
