Slytherin is undoubtedly the most harshly judged house out of the four at Hogwarts. That’s not to say that they are not always correctly judged that way, but there are a lot more to Slytherins than just being slightly racist, slightly Voldemort lovers, slightly cunning, and generally… slightly evil.

In Harry Potter, Slytherin is almost synonymous with Voldemort and the Death Eaters, but the fans who love the general lore and are able to see past their (admittedly many) wrongs can find themselves loving Slytherin more than all the others due to their (also admittedly many) good things that it offers.

8 They Are Hardworking

If any house deserves a medal for how hardworking they are, that would be the Slytherin. If they put something in their mind, they will move the Earth and Sun until they have achieved it, no matter how many obstacles they have to face or how hard the task is.

It might not be an example to follow in general, but the seer determination of He Who Must Not Be Named to be kept alive and achieve his goals is a perfect example of that. Nobody, even when presented with proof, wanted to believe that he was back and that a thing like that could even be possible, and yet…

7 They Are Incredibly Stylish

For a lot of fans, Slytherins are the most elegant house in Harry Potter. Their colors are green and silver, a combination that looks powerful and stylish at the same time, making them among the most well-dressed.

This is also helped by the fact that it is quite hard to spot a Slytherin that looks all over the place, as many of the students of the other houses sometimes do. Whether they are prepared for a Quidditch match or just to go to classes, or even a Death Eater meeting, a Slytherin always looks their best, with their uniforms clean and their hair in place.

6 They Have Some Of The Most Powerful Wizards

Not many fans out there like Voldemort, but everyone agrees that Voldemort was one of the most powerful wizards of all time. Many have wondered what Harry Potter would look like if Voldemort used all his power for good instead of evil, and even if the answer is “probably boring”, the question itself shows how powerful he truly was.

But it is not only He Who Must Not Be Named (and was, oops!) who is powerful and a Slytherin. Professor Snape is also superbly powerful, as is the Malfoy family, Horace Slughorn, Regulus Black, and let’s not forget that Andromeda Tonks was also a Slytherin.

5 They Are Brave

One great example, and also one of the most emotionally charged scenes in Harry Potter, is the one where young Malfoy points his wand at Dumbledore and can’t make the decision whether he wants to kill him or not.

This makes Draco doubly brave because he knows that he has sacrificed a lot to come this far, and his bravery before that point made him able to be in this position, but he also realizes that he doesn’t want to kill Dumbledore and even when Bellatrix pushes him, he stays put.

4 They Are Superb At Quidditch

Slytherins are fierce, and nothing shows this better than when they play Quidditch. A lot will argue about their ethics during the games since they are not above cheating to win, but no one can argue that even without cheating, they are amazing players, and they have a strong team spirit that is focused very much on the win.

It is not certain how well the Slytherin team would do in Harry Potter books and movies if it weren’t for the many interruptions in the games, but many fans believe that they would win the House Cup more than once.

3 They Are Prejudiced By Others, But They Don’t Care

One thing that Slytherins have that other houses don’t share is how much they are judged by all the other houses. They see Slytherin as the enemy and often come together as one to be against them, and a lot of times, this includes teachers as well as students.

The Slytherins seem to be used to being harshly judged, and sometimes they even seem to enjoy being the odd one out, but it couldn’t have been easy for any of them to be considered evil from the get-go.

2 Harry Potter Was Almost A Slytherin

It wouldn’t be proper to forget that Harry Potter himself was also almost a Slytherin. This was not just because Harry had a piece of Lord Voldemort’s soul inside him, as many want to believe, but because Harry indeed had some Slytherin characteristics.

Harry was ambitious and resourceful, and at times he could be cunning, and all these are very strong in his character, something that normally would put him into Slytherin House. Also, Harry was afraid that he would be sorted into Slytherin, something that shows that even he knew, even instinctively, that he would be a good match there.

1 Snape Was A Slytherin

Harry Potter Snape

When everything else fails to convince someone that Slytherin is a great house, then the last resort would be to remind them that Snape was a Slytherin. This fact on its own has probably gained more “points” to Slytherin House than anything else might have.

Professor Snape was, and still is, loved by most Harry Potter fans because he shows the best and the worst traits of being a Slytherin, and he is doing so while ultimately helping the good guys and by sacrificing himself for his one and true lost love, or to be more correct, for his memory of her.
