All of Hogwart's Houses have something unique and amazing about them, and all of them have also their little quirks and, let's just say... unfortunate behavioral patterns. Many would argue that the main reason people love Gryffindor House so much is that Harry Potter was a member of it, along with Hermione and Ron.

But true Harry Potter fans won’t care about it that much when it comes to picking their favorite house or the one that is considered the best – although these two usually align. Simply put, Gryffindor House has much more to show than just Harry.

7 Some Of The Best Wizards Were Gryffindors

Harry Potter Hermione Granger

Apart from the beloved trio of Harry, Hermione, and Ron, Gryffindor House had some of the most important and strong magicians in the whole franchise. Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall, along with Sirius Black, Hagrid, and Remus Lupin, were all Gryffindor as well as important characters in the books that played a critical role in the stories.

This is not happenstance but rather the result of being selected into Gryffindor because they all share some of the same characteristics that made the sorting hat choose this house for them.

6 They Are Rule-Breakers If Needed

Harry Potter The Marauders-1

There is nothing a Gryffindor wouldn't try if they believe that it is the correct thing to do. Harry Potter is, of course, a prime example of this, since he has gotten himself in more trouble than anyone else just because he kept defying the rules to do what he and his friends believed was right. In the end, almost always, their actions were justified, or at least understood by their superiors, and were forgiven.

As the stories in the books progress, the readers see more and more Gryffindor defying the rules, even people who stand to lose a lot more than just being expelled. Professor McGonagall and Dumbledore are once again perfect examples of this, as they have risked their careers in order to do what they thought was the right thing, even though they deeply cared for the price that they would pay.

5 The Making Of Leaders

Harry Potter McGonagall

Starting with Godric Gryffindor, it's more than possible that Hogwarts wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for him. A definite leader and innovator of his time, Godric was one of the four founding members of Hogwarts, and he was the one that insisted that not only pure-blood witches and wizards could be students.

Apart from Godric though, Gryffindor has members all over important places. Dumbledore was Headmaster, and Professor McGonagall was Headmaster, Deputy Headmaster, and Head Of Gryffindor House. Neville Longbottom would also become Head Of Gryffindor and Hermione Granger would become Head Of The Ministry Of Magic.

4 They Are Brave And Loyal

The basic traits of a Gryffindor are: daring, nerve, chivalry, courage, bravery, and determination. But usually, Gryffindors are much more than that. Even though Slytherins are famous for being loyal, Gryffindors have proved during their history that they are also very loyal to the people they are close with, and they would fight alongside them no matter what.

Sometimes it’s hard for Gryffindors to not fight between themselves because they can be hot-headed and insist on their opinion, even if everything else points them in a different direction. But ultimately, they would prefer to be there for their friends, even if they are wrong or too daring for their own good, rather than take the risk of not being there to help them in their time of need.

3 The Gryffindor Common Room Is The Best

If someone wanted to get inside the Gryffindor common room, they would first have to pass the portrait of the Fat Lady and give her the correct password. Like their emblem which is in red and gold colors, the Gryffindor common room sports these colors with elegance and a big dose of coziness and comfort.

Above the fireplace, which could be considered the main attraction of the room, there is a portrait of a lion, the symbol of Gryffindor House. All around the common room, there are squashy armchairs for the students to relax and big windows that overlook the school grounds. The only other common room that could be matched in terms of comfort and coziness would be the Hufflepuff one, although Gryffindors wouldn’t change theirs for anything!

2 The Sword Of Gryffindor

Harry Potter The Sword Of Gryffindor

The Sword Of Gryffindor is yet another reason why this house is considered the best. Owned by Godric Gryffindor, this goblin-made sword is more than a thousand years old, and, obviously, magical. In the books and movies, it plays a very important role, as it is the thing that can destroy Voldemort and his Horcruxes.

In the lore, Ragnur the First, who was a kind of king among Goblins, forged the sword for Godric, but he liked it so much, that he sent his minions to steal it from him. Godric won the fight and the sword and threatened Ragnur with destruction if he ever tried anything like that again. Ragnur did not try to steal it again, but he kept the rumor that Godric had stolen the sword from him, something that even later generations of goblins came to believe was true.

1 They Are Amazing At Quidditch

Harry Potter Quidditch

Slytherins might have the most points in Quidditch, but Gryffindor could give them a run for their money any day. From the most well-known families in Harry Potter, the Weasleys are probably the most notable members of the team, as almost all of them had played in one point or another, in different positions. The twins, George and Fred, were both Beaters and excellent players.

Quidditch was also one of Harry's favorite things in Hogwarts and he seemed to be a natural at it, which lead him to be the youngest seeker in more than a hundred years. Harry, in his first match against Slytherin, caught the Snitch and won the game. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough for them to win the Cup that year, which went to Ravenclaw, with Harry absent from the game because he was in the hospital wing.
