Hogwarts Legacy fans cannot feel too thrilled about the chances of a Quidditch DLC right now with Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions coming in and snatching up all the glory. It is always possible that Quidditch could make its way to Hogwarts Legacy in a DLC, sequel, or spin-off of its own, but it would make more sense if Quidditch Champions spearheaded that front and took on the sport to its fullest potential. It is still unfortunate that Hogwarts Legacy does not have Quidditch of its own, though, and Quidditch Champions is hopefully empathetic toward that.

In many ways, Quidditch Champions taking it upon itself to fulfill that gameplay need is incredible. Instead of having a half-baked mini-game that is restricted to single-player gameplay, Quidditch Champions has the opportunity to make fans’ wishes come true as an online multiplayer game, which could feel like a proper remake of Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup. Rather, Quidditch Champions could be as warmly welcoming to Hogwarts Legacy players as possible in order to feature a smooth transition between the two Harry Potter games.

Because fans have desired Quidditch from Hogwarts Legacy for as long as the game has been announced, it only makes sense that these same fans would be naturally interested in Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions. The multiplayer game’s art style may not be the same as Hogwarts Legacy’s, but that is actually in Quidditch Champions’ best interest since it further delineates the two.

However, if Quidditch Champions wants to make the most of the fanbase that Hogwarts Legacy has amassed since February, it would do well to have as many tie-in rewards or crossovers as possible. The most convenient way that Quidditch Champions could reference Hogwarts Legacy is by having a collaborative in-game reward pick-up for logging in with the same WB Games account.

A WB Games account is needed anyhow when signing up for Quidditch Champions’ limited playtest this month, and it would be terrific if there were exclusive cosmetics offered for fans who have played Hogwarts Legacy available in Quidditch Champions; for example, Quidditch Champions could gift players with exclusive Hogwarts house Quidditch gear that reflects the houses they have played as in Hogwarts Legacy.

Something small like this would go a long way in showing Hogwarts Legacy fans that this multiplayer game is their outlet to play the sport they did not get to play in the unrelated action RPG. But even if both games are unrelated to one another, they still share a common thread in their overarching IP, and that should be celebrated.

The Harry Potter Max series being announced also makes this a convenient time for Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions to be announced, but only time will tell if it sticks the landing. Indeed, Quidditch Champions being a multiplayer game will be contingent on whether fans find it appealing and if it has legs long enough to carry itself with post-launch content well into the future, meaning it will need to be engaging enough for players to stick around for whatever other content it decides to introduce—with the hope being that content is not purely cosmetic-related.

If Quidditch Champions is as highly anticipated as Hogwarts Legacy was, then it will surely need no help in garnering an enormous playerbase of its own. But with Hogwarts Legacy’s help, it could be even larger and all-encompassing than the game ever dreamed to be.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4 and Xbox One versions launching May 5 and a Switch port releasing July 25.
