Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery may break established Harry Potter canon in some ways, but since it's made under the Portkey Games banner, it's apparently still telling a canonical story of Hogwarts in the 1980s. The game even reveals some new information about characters from the Harry Potter book and film series, specifically Hagrid's dog Fang, and who gave him his name. For those who wish to discover this for themselves, please note that this article will have spoilers.

When Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players reach Year 2 Chapter 7, they encounter a side quest where they can help Hagrid create a fire-breathing potion to free puppy Fang from the deadly vines of the Devil's Snare. Once players manage to free the puppy, they will have the chance to give Fang his name.

While players can select another choice for Fang's name, the puppy will still end up with its canonical name when it's all said and done. So, assuming the events of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery are truly meant to be canon, that means the sibling of the missing Hogwarts student Jacob, aka the player character, is who named Fang in the Harry Potter universe.

This revelation should go a long way in making players feel like their created character actually made an impact in the world of Harry Potter. After all, Fang is a character who appears on numerous occasions in both the films and the books, and while he may not do much in his later years, he still plays an important role in the story as Hagrid's loyal companion.

Of course, puppy Fang in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery should give Hagrid's beloved dog even more exposure than he has had in the past. Besides the quest where players have to save Fang from the Devil's Snare, the puppy also appears as a free energy source players can collect a few times a day. To find Fang, simply visit the Castle Grounds and click on the stick in front of Hagrid's hut.

It will be interesting to see if Fang's role in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is expanded in future updates, and if players will also have the chance to adopt a Fang-like puppy of their own once pets become available.
