Since Harry Potter first became a global phenomenon, Hufflepuff has been the forgotten Hogwarts house. In Hufflepuff's first mention in the series, Draco Malfoy claims he would leave rather than be in Hufflepuff, and Hagrid admits the House isn't well thought of.

While Gryffindor is known for its bravery, Slytherin is known for its ambition and Ravenclaw is known for its intelligence, Hufflepuff is mostly known for being the leftovers of the school. Still, Hufflepuffs have risen to the occasion and made names for themselves in the Harry Potter universe. These witches and wizards have made life better for the wizarding community.

10 Hengist Of Woodcroft

Hengist of Woodcroft

While not mentioned in the main Harry Potter book series, supplementary material reveals Hengist of Woodcroft founded the wizard village of Hogsmeade. Forced to flee his home in Gloucestershire by Muggle persecutors, he wanted a safe haven for wizards.

Hogsmeade would go on to become a prosperous town that Hogwarts students would frequently visit on the weekends. While not much else is known about Hengist of Woodcroft, he is believed to have lived in The Three Broomsticks.

9 Hannah Abbott

Charlotte Skeoch as Hannah Abbott

Hannah Abbott is a periphery character throughout most of the Harry Potter series, but she has her moments and the Pottermore website revealed more about her life post-Hogwarts. Hannah served as one of the Hufflepuff prefects along with Ernie McMillan and joined Dumbledore's Army to stand up to Dolores Umbridge.

In her seventh year, she fought alongside the heroes at the Battle of Hogwarts and survived. Her later life reveals she went on to marry Neville Longbottom and run The Leaky Cauldron at Diagon Alley.

8 Ernie McMillan

Jamie Marks as Ernie McMillan

The most prominent Hufflepuff student in the Harry Potter series, Ernie McMillan was a bit pompous but mostly a good guy. He was in the same year as Harry, Ron, and Hermione and initially believed Harry to be the Heir of Slytherin attacking Muggle-born students until Hermione was attacked.

By the time Harry formed Dumbledore's Army, Ernie became one of Harry's most trusted allies in Hufflepuff house. Ernie joined the group and learned defensive magic under Harry. He also fought alongside the heroes in the Battle of Hogwarts and was seen celebrating with the other survivors following Voldemort's defeat.

7 Theseus Scamander

Callum Turner as Theseus Scamander

While not as famous as his younger brother, Newt, Theseus Scamander is one of the greatest Aurors and wizards of the early 1900s. He became so accomplished as an auror the British Ministry of Magic selected him to lead the hunt for Gellert Grindelwald.

Theseus was vastly different from Newt in almost every way, but Theseus was also a loyal brother, putting his reputation on the line for Newt several times. Theseus could be seen attending Newt's book premiere and vouching for his brother to get Newt's travel ban lifted. The only thing Theseus valued more than the law was his family.

6 Newt Scamander

Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander

While only mentioned as a book author in the main Harry Potter series, Newt Scamander holds a major role in the Fantastic Beasts series, a spinoff focused on the rise of Grindelwald. With a love for magical creatures almost at the same level as Hagrid, Newt pursued a career as a Magizoologist, arguably becoming the most famous in magical history.

While Newt preferred animals to people, he would still rise to the occasion and help others when needed. He provided a comforting shoulder for his brother after Theseus' fiancé sacrificed herself. He also rescued his best friend, Jacob, from a love spell.

5 Artemisia Lufkin

Artemisia Lufkin

Another Hufflepuff only mentioned through supplementary material, Artemisia Lufkin still made history for herself, the Hufflepuff house, and the wizarding community at large. In the 19th century, Lufkin was the first woman to serve as Minister of Magic. Her predecessor was highly controversial and, after finishing his term, was elected to a full term.

Her time in office led to the development of the Department of International Magical Cooperation, the division where Percy Weasley and Barty Crouch Sr. worked in The Goblet of Fire. Her work led to diplomatic relations between foreign governments and proved essential to eventually hosting the Quidditch World Cup and the Tri-Wizard Tournament.

4 Helga Hufflepuff

Hogwarts Founders

Easily the most famous Hufflepuff would be the woman the house is named after. As one of the founders of Hogwarts, Helga Hufflepuff took it upon herself to ensure every young witch or wizard had a chance at magical education. While Slytherin, Gryffindor, and Ravenclaw all had qualities they preferred, Hufflepuff was indiscriminate.

Her influence on the magical world is undeniable with her having one of the four houses at Hogwarts. Her teaching philosophy appears to have made the magical world better by providing educational opportunities for the others on this list.

3 Pomona Sprout

Miriam Margolyes as Pomona Sprout

Madam Sprout serves as the Herbology professor and head of the Hufflepuff house at Hogwarts. She is one of the more fair teachers at Hogwarts and always served as a loyal guardian to the students in her charge.

During the events of The Sorcerer's Stone, Sprout put the Devil's Snare in place that almost managed to stop Harry, Ron, and Hermione. She also grew the mandrakes that revived the petrified people during The Chamber of Secrets, and she took on the tragic task of consoling Cedric Diggory's family following his untimely death.

2 Cedric Diggory

Robert Pattinson as Cedric Diggory

One of the many victims who were unfortunately collateral damage in Voldemort's return to power, Cedric Diggory embodied everything Hufflepuff represents. He is just and fair and always willing to do what is right even at the expense of his own personal glory.

Cedric served as Seeker on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team and led them to a victory over Gryffindor in Prisoner of Azkaban. He was also chosen as Hogwarts champion for the Tri-Wizard Tournament in Goblet of Fire and reached the end of the maze essentially winning the tournament. Unfortunately, his integrity led to him choosing to tie with Harry and, ultimately, to his death.

1 Nymphadora Tonks

Brendan Gleeson as Alastar Moody. Natalia Tena as Nymphadora Tonks.

An accomplished Auror with a diverse skill set, Nymphadora Tonks was a Metamorphmagus, a student of Mad-Eye Moody, and a valued member of the Order of the Phoenix. Introduced as part of the crew that rescued Harry from Privet Drive after the dementor attack, Tonks became an invaluable member of the team.

She responded to the Department of Mysteries in book five and served as a guardian of Hogwarts in book six. Tonks had all the skills to become the Head Auror, but she sadly died during the Battle of Hogwarts.
