There are many things in the Harry Potter universe that fans wished were true. Some of them are completely out of this world, like wizards, Hogwarts, and mythical animals, while some others feel so close to everyday life objects that it is almost hard to believe no one has tried to make them yet – even if they don’t have magic available.

These objects are sometimes necessary for the Harry Potter universe to exist (see wands, invisibility cloak, the Maurader’s map, etc.), while some others are merely there to enhance the magical atmosphere that the Harry Potter series lavishly gives to its readers/viewers.

8 Spell-Checking Quill

Harry Potter Spell-Checking Quill

The Spell-Checking Quill was sold by none other than the Weasley twins in their shop Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes and, needless to say, was a big hit with Hogwarts students. The quill was enhanced to automatically correct any spelling errors that its owner made while writing, but it wasn’t all good, since it had something of a “side effect.”

After some months of using it, the Spell-Checking Quill would start to deteriorate and make the spelling mistakes even worse than what they were in the beginning. For example, when Ron was writing with one that had gotten old, the quill wrote his name as “Roonil Wazlib” instead of Ronald Weasley.

7 Mokeskin Pouch

Harry Potter Mokeskin Pouch

This was gifted to Harry from Hagrid on his seventeenth birthday and let’s just say that it proved more than useful. And how can it not be? The Mokeskin Pouch was made from the skin of mokes (a type of magical lizard) and its owner could store things inside it that no one else could retrieve, making it a perfect anti-theft bag.

Even though the pouch was small, it had the capacity to hold many objects, regardless of size and weight, due to an enchantment that was similar to what Hermione had in her bag which let her carry whatever she wanted in her beaded handbag.

6 Omnioculars

Harry Potter Omnioculars

Even though the Omnioculars were only used in Quidditch matches, fans would find many other uses for them if they were actual items in our world. The Omnioculars are what binoculars aspire to be: the user can view things closer, but can also replay action, use slow-motion if needed, and provide a play-by-play breakdown.

Much like the real-life VAR that referees use in football games to replay the action and see if the decision that was made was correct or not, with the Omnioculars the Quidditch referees could see the action of the game to check if fouls were committed or not, as it happened in the final match of the 2014 Quidditch World Cup.

5 Floo Powder

Harry Potter Floo Powder

Floo Powder might be one of those objects that are not close to anything we have in the real world, but it is something that would make life so much easier – especially when someone doesn’t want to get stuck in traffic. The Floo Powder is, obviously, a powder, that when thrown into a fireplace, lets the person be transported to a specific location that is predetermined, without getting burned.

Things are not as smooth as they seem though, as the person using it must be very clear and very loud when stating the place that they want to end up in, as they could be transported to a completely different place, with no way of going back. The Weasleys kept their Floo Powder in a flowerpot on their mantle.

4 Exploding Snap

Harry Potter Exploding Snap

This is a wizarding card game that, admittedly, has to be a lot of fun, although it could prove quite dangerous too. There were two different versions of the game in the Harry Potter series, one “Classical” and one “Patience,” with the second one being harder.

The game required very good reflexes, as when the wizard saw two identical pictures, they would have to hit the card with the top of their wand. That would grant them one point, and the player with the most points would be the winner of the game. The “exploding” part refers to the fact that the cards explode soon after they are revealed if the player doesn’t find the pair.

3 Spellotape

Harry Potter Spellotape

Much like real-life sellotape (British cellophane adhesive tape, similar to Scotch Tape), the Spellotape has the use of temporarily fixing broken objects that could not be fixed by a spell. This is probably the closest related to a real-life object in the whole of Harry Potter, with the difference of course that it was used for magical objects.

Both Hermione and Ron used the Spellotape in different books while trying to fix something quickly, as well as other characters in the series. Famously, Ron used it in his broken wand, but it was way too broken to work properly, even with the use of Spellotape, which resulted in some hilarious moments.

2 Remembrall

Harry Potter Remembrall

All the Harry Potter fans that tend to be forgetful had wished that the Remembrall was a real thing. It was a glass ball with smoke inside that turned red when its owner had forgotten something and turned clear when the thing that was forgotten is remembered.

In the books and movies, this was used by Neville Longbottom, who kept forgetting things and it was gifted to him by his grandma. The Remembrall truly was an amazing thing to have, provided that the owner could actually remember what it was that was forgotten.

1 Deluminator

Harry Potter Deluminator

If Deluminator was a real-life object, then it would probably make one of the most popular gifts. The Deluminator had many uses, but its most common one was to absorb light from a source and return it. This might seem a bit redundant, but especially in the Harry Potter universe, where the characters had to hide frequently, this was a lifesaving device.

This creation of Dumbledore was gifted to Ron and it also helped him to return to Hermione and Harry after he was separated from them and didn’t know their whereabouts.
