HBO Max has released the first teaser trailer for season 3 of Harley Quinn. The new trailer features lots of cameos from DC characters including, Amanda Waller, The Court of Owls, and The Suicide Squad director James Gunn.

The new trailer for Harley Quinn begins with Harley (Kaley Cuoco) celebrating her two-week anniversary with her friend turned lover Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) by kidnapping Amanda Waller. Ivy isn't exactly thrilled by this gesture, but the trailer quickly moves along as Harley celebrates what she has dubbed the "eat, bang, kill tour." She refers to Ivy as her "BFF, GFF" as they wreak havoc across the globe.

We then see Harley and Ivy meet up with their imprisoned teammates, Clayface (Alan Tudyk) and King Shark (Ron Funches). The Harley Quinn season 3 trailer continues at breakneck speed as the title cards tell us that this season will be "filthier, freakier, and squishier" while we're treated to plenty of gory violence and cameos from Batman, Catwoman, and even an animated James Gunn, who seems to be getting off on using Clayface as a vibrating massage chair. Written and executive-produced by Justin Halpern, the first two seasons of Harley Quinn aired on DC Universe before WarnerMedia moved all of DC's streaming content to HBO Max, making season 3 the first to premiere on the streaming service.

The first two seasons saw Harley Quinn break away from her one-time lover and accomplice the Joker to create her own super-villain team comprised of Poison Ivy, Clayface, King Shark, and Dr. Psycho (Tony Hale). The second season also featured a prominent storyline where Harley and Ivy finally became romantically involved with each other, something that has been featured in the comics for many years now. However, this was complicated by the fact that Ivy was set to marry D-list super villain Kite Man (Matt Oberg). The wedding was predictably a disaster, and season 2 ended with Harley and Ivy riding off into the sunset, as Commissioner Gordon is hot on their tails.

While the Harley Quinn animated series may not get as much attention as some of DC's live-action properties, the show has developed a strong and committed fan base. The series is notable for its dark R-rated humor and its ruthless lambasting of the entire DC universe, poking fun at characters from the Justice League and Batman comics. Notably absent from the season 3 trailer is Harley's previous teammate Dr. Psycho.

In season 2, he betrays Harley and takes over Gotham with a parademon army he obtained from the supervillain Darkseid. However, he is foiled by an unlikely alliance between Harley, the Justice League, Commissioner Gordon, and the Joker. Dr. Psycho was last seen being sent to Arkham Asylum, but anyone who's ever read a Batman comic or played one of the Arkham video games knows that the infamous asylum never holds its inmates for long.

Harley Quinn season 3 will premiere on HBO Max on July 28th, 2022.
