Halo: The Master Chief Collection has passed an impressive milestone on PC. Halo: The Master Chief Collection released on PC in 2019 via Steam, the Microsoft Store, and Xbox Game Pass for PC, after Xbox announced that all of its future first-party titles would also be released on PC. The new milestone passed could indicate that Xbox's investment in the platform could be paying off.

The original Halo ushered in a new era of console shooters when it launched in 2001 when it spawned Xbox's flagship first-party series. Since then the series has received 14 titles, with Halo: The Master Chief Collection bundling together six mainline Halo titles into one convenient package.

In speaking with PCGamesN, Shannon Loftis, head of Xbox subsidiary World's Edge, revealed that Halo: The Master Chief Collection has seen more than 10 million players on PC alone. Interestingly, Loftis also says that many of the players checking the title out on PC are new to the series, which has allowed the Halo series to find an entirely new group of fans through launching on the platform. The news follows Xbox's announcement that the upcoming Halo Infinite will feature not only cross-play but also cross-progression between PC and Xbox, allowing players to play with their friends regardless of what platform they are on.

Loftis uses the milestone as an example of Xbox's success branching into the PC platform. Xbox has done so not only through its Xbox Game Pass for PC service that gives PC players access to over a hundred PC titles including every game included with EA Play, but also through studio acquisitions. Xbox has been acquiring many big-name studios to developed first-party games for them, with many of them being big names in the PC gaming community. Studios like InXile, Obsidian, Bethesda, and World's Edge all have some of the biggest PC titles, putting Xbox in a great position to attract those players as well.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection has received a lot of support since it launched, including the introduction of seasonal content updates. Season 6 just started for Halo: The Master Chief Collection at the start of this month, so now is a great time for returning Halo fans and curious players that have never played the classic season to jump in. With Halo Infinite expected to release later this year, the collection is also a great opportunity to get caught up on the series' story before the newest title launches.
