A new Halo tabletop game is slated for release later this year. While the next video game in the series has yet to be announced, this upcoming tabletop game will offer a new and interesting way for players to experience Halo.

The last Halo game to release was Halo Infinite back in November 2021. It had a rocky launch, with many players left unsatisfied with the game’s state and lack of a campaign, which has been a staple of the series ever since the early days of the franchise. However, since then, Infinite has received several updates and still maintains a high player count, even though a single-player campaign is still missing. But while there has been no official announcement for the next video game in the series, fans still have something to look forward to this year.

What to Expect From the Halo Franchise in 2024

The Halo franchise has been through the wringer in the last few years, but it's finally on the up again, and 2024 could be a good year for Halo.

343 Industries and Mantic Games have partnered to create a miniature-based tabletop Halo game. The project is currently untitled, but Mantic and 343 shared details regarding this new Halo experience. As of right now, the only pieces confirmed to be part of the game are miniature Spartans, with the inclusion of other elements, such as vehicles and Covenant races, are left uncertain. Previews for the game will begin in March, and its full release is planned for September.

Mantic seems confident in what they have to show. In a press release, Mantic Games CEO Ronnie Renton went on record, claiming that he is very happy with the game and that he anticipates it being a lot of fun for fans.

"We have a thrilling and competitive game from a passionate team of talented sculptors, artists, and designers who have been building an incredible Halo experience."

Halo has been subject to tabletop treatment before with Halo ActionClix in 2007. In Halo ActionClix, Spartans and UNSC forces battle vehicles and aliens, such as Hunters. But it was unfortunately discontinued in 2008, only a year after its initial launch.

Tabletop games and video games are no strangers to one another. A plethora of video games have been made into tabletop versions, and vice versa. A couple of the biggest releases of the last several years, Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur’s Gate 3, are examples of this, as Cyberpunk is based off of Mike Pondsmith’s tabletop RPG Cyberpunk 2020 and Baldur’s Gate 3 is based on Dungeons & Dragons. These two different types of gaming see quite a bit of overlap, especially where D&D is concerned. So, while Halo came first in the form of a groundbreaking video game in the first-person shooter genre, it is likely that a chunk of that fanbase will also engage in the new tabletop version.
