A Halo fan has created a colored pencil drawing of the Master Chief, realizing the iconic Spartan in impressive detail. While the Halo series has had its share of highs and lows over the years, one aspect that most fans love about the series of games is Master Chief, who has been the face of the franchise since the beginning.

Master Chief, also known as John-117, was first featured in Halo: Combat Evolved for the original Xbox in 2001. While other characters have had a chance to be playable in the mainline games, such as The Arbiter and Jameson Locke, Master Chief has remained the primary protagonist in most games in the franchise. This trend continued with the most recent installment, Halo Infinite, in which the augmented super soldier was tasked with taking down the Banished and confronting a threat known as the Harbinger. Recently, one artistic gamer decided to recreate the design of a famous character in a different medium.

In a post on Reddit, an artist known as emilymeganxart on the platform shared their colored pencil version of Master Chief from the Halo series. In the image, the character stood heroically, holding his assault rifle. The Master Chief featured his design from Halo Infinite in this drawing, including his green-shaded MJOLNIR armor, with the iconic number “117” etched across his chest. Behind the Spartan was the series logo, realized in an impressive shade of gold. Besides the drawing, the picture included a set of pencils used by the artist, revealing what shades they had utilized in making the art.

Interestingly, the inspiration to make this artwork came from their personal trainer, who the Reddit user revealed they were creating artwork for in exchange for training sessions. In addition to explaining the background of the art project, emilymeganxart shared some details on how to get started making colored pencil drawings. Suggestions included using direct references and sketching the design with light pencils so that erasing would not ruin the paper.

In the Reddit comments, many users have been complimenting the artist on a job well done. The post already has over 5K upvotes on the Gaming subreddit, with many Halo fans commenting on the decision to use colored pencils as the medium for the art. “The choice to use pencils really makes the armor color/shading look like it has great texture,” one fan pointed out.

While fan art based on the Halo series might not be as prevalent on Reddit compared to franchises like Pokemon, some of the content is stunning. Besides this incredible colored pencil drawing, another gamer painted an acrylic painting of Master Chief. As fans await what is next for Master Chief and the Halo franchise, it will be interesting to see if artwork made by artists like emilymeganxart inspires others to create even more fan art based on the series.
