A new report claims that Microsoft has ended development on Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The remastered collection of classic entries in the beloved shooter series initially released back in 2014, but it's received numerous updates and multiplayer seasons since then, continuing to delight gamers for nearly a decade. While it faced issues at launch, especially regarding bugs and the multiplayer experience, developer 343 built Halo: The Master Chief Collection into a hit that still draws in fans today.

It may have had a rocky release, but The Master Chief Collection went on to join the ranks of titles that earned a post-launch redemption, and ultimately won over gamers. With all the passion surrounding the game, it's not surprising that many fans are always eager for news about the future of the series and what 343 and Microsoft have in the works. Sadly, the latest news is likely to disappoint players rather than excite them.

Halo Infinite Reveals New Maps and More Coming in Cyber Showdown 3 Event

Halo Infinite's limited time event, Cyber Showdown, returns for a third time bringing with is changes as well as new content and rewards.

A new report from YouTuber and gaming reporter Rebs Gaming alleges that Microsoft has ended development on Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The report cites an unnamed "primary source" with inside information about 343 Studios and explains that Microsoft made the decision to end development because the game lacked an ongoing revenue stream and out of fear of a possible recession. Some gamers will likely be surprised by this news, given that the Master Chief Collection got a new update just last month. It should be stressed that nothing official from Microsoft has been announced in regards to Master Chief Collection development plans.

Master Chief Collection Development May Be Ended For Now

The report also asserts that devs at 343 Studios were not happy to learn of the decision by Microsoft and there is some hope that, at some point in the future, work on the title could resume. It also appears that the developer previously attempted to save the project by introducing "Spartan Points" as a purchasable currency that would give Microsoft its revenue stream. This idea was apparently shut down after pushback from fans, however, leaving 343 without anything to persuade its publisher. It was recently revealed that 343 pitched Microsoft dozens of Halo ideas that were ultimately rejected.

This revelation will likely upset many fans of the Halo franchise and The Master Chief Collection in particular. While it seems that future development has not been ruled out entirely, Microsoft is clearly shifting focus to other elements of the series for the time being.
