Halo Infinite is a title that has now established itself and sustained a reasonably favorable critical reception. Competitively launching alongside other industry giants such as Battlefield 2042 and Call of Duty: Vanguard, the latest iteration of the space-shooter franchise seems to stand a cut above its competition in terms of immediate legacy and positive buzz, although that is not to say it is without criticism.

Although it is true that Halo Infinite has been lauded for its ambitious open-world campaign and free-to-play multiplayer, it must be said that the latter has taken a while to significantly resonate with fans and provide that classic Halo multiplayer experience with a good variety of content. With the title always striving to reach these heights, the implementation of new game modes with the periodic arrival of seasonal multiplayer updates is the perfect way to do so.

Halo Infinite: King of the Hill

One of the new game modes launching with Season 2 of Halo Infinite's multiplayer mode is that of King of the Hill. Many fans are excited to finally be able to play this staple on Halo Infinite, though some would have perhaps expected it to have been a part of the game's modes-roster at launch.

King of the Hill for Halo Infinite will act in a fairly conventional manner. It is known that King of the Hill will see a neutral capture point appear somewhere on the map, which will begin earning one point per second towards a capture progress bar once a member of a team is standing within the capture point boundaries. Once this progress bar is fully completed, the capturing team will earn one point on the scoreboard, and a new capture point will appear somewhere else on the map.

Halo Infinite: Land Grab

Another online game mode coming with Halo Infinite Season 2 is Land Grab. While pertaining the same focus on capturing zones as King of the Hill, Land Grab promises to be larger in scale. The premise of Land Grab is that there are three separate neutral zones scattered around the map at the beginning of a match. If a team captures a zone, it becomes locked and the team earns a point. Once all points are captured, even if by a combination of both teams, there is a brief intermission where three new points are then identified on the map. The game will then eventually end when one team reaches 11 points.

Halo Infinite: Last Spartan Standing

The last, and probably most exciting, mode being introduced with Halo Infinite's Season 2 is Last Spartan Standing, an answer to long-term pleas for a Battle Royale in Halo Infinite. The mode will see 12 players spawn on an expansive Big Team Battle map, each with confined loadouts and five available respawns at their disposal.

These 12 players will then act alone and are pitted against each other, in keeping with the "Lone Wolves" theme of Season 2. Players will have to act tactically, being permanently eliminated from the match should they use all of their 5 available respawns. Having said this, players will also be able to upgrade their weapons upon getting a kill, incentivizing offensive play as well as defensive. With the map's survivors slowly but surely whittling down as the game progresses, the round will eventually end once there is only one player left standing.

Halo Infinite is available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
