Halo Infinite's multiplayer has been the subject of scrutiny since the game's launch back in December, with a lot of players feeling like the game needs more content. While that is about to change this month with updates to the matchmaking and playlists, it also means certain game modes have to be removed in order to make room for new ones. On Tuesday, August 23, fans can say goodbye to the playlist that the Halo Infinite season 2 battle pass Lone Wolves revolves around and hello to matches full of players in duos.

Halo Infinite's multiplayer released early on November 15, 2021, and has been going through growing pains ever since. Players have had issues with the game's battle pass progression system, as well as the inability to choose game modes to play when the game first launched. While a lot of issues have been addressed and patched, Halo Infinite had a rough start to its second season, which started in May. In a new post from developer 343 Industries, it was confirmed more changes and fixes are on the way, but they also confirmed the removal of the Last Spartan Standing playlist in favor of another.

The confirmation that Last Spartan Standing will be removed from the playlist rotation came via an official post made to Halo Waypoint by Senior Community Manager John Junyszek on August 19. Instead of players fighting to be the last man standing in a limited-lives free-for-all mode, Ranked Doubles will be substituted in. 343 Industries says it will continue to monitor the health of each playlist and make rotations and changes as needed in order to keep the game active with populated playlists. This update comes just a few weeks after the August 9 Halo Infinite update.

The post also detailed that the multiplayer ranking system will be tweaked prior to the update going live. The game's multiplayer servers will go down for maintenance early on August 23, with all ranked arena playlists being disabled for the expected few hours of maintenance. When they come back up, Ranked Doubles will replace Last Spartan Standing. There was no mention of the much anticipated Halo Infinite Forge Mode or other major updates to the game.

Halo Infinite's lack of consistent content updates and a bumpy launch to its second battle pass season have definitely left a less-than-favorable impression about the game's future. With the removal of one game mode in favor of another, this update is sure to have a mixed reaction from fans. Still, it's clear gamers want more playlists, with some people going as far as to create the popular Infection game mode in the unreleased Forge mode. Finding the balance between keeping the game's community happy and keeping things fresh remains a challenging task.

Halo Infinite is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
