Halo Infinite’s multiplayer harkens back to earlier entries in the series and loads in different special equipment periodically on its maps. These pieces of armor upgrades grant Halo Infinite players specific abilities such as invisibility and extra armor to help them for a short time in their match.

Getting the most out of these items, however, can be a bit of a challenge. This is especially true for Halo Infinite’s Grappleshot and its grappling hook. For those players looking to take advantage of this great piece of equipment while Halo Infinite's multiplayer is available to play early, this guide is here to help.

How to Use the Grappling Hook

Since it was confirmed that Halo Infinite would feature a grappling hook, players have been curious as to its application. With multiplayer available, players now know that the Grappleshot can be activated with the right bumper on an Xbox controller or Q on a PC. This piece of equipment fires off right where the player is looking, as long as the target is within range. It attaches quickly to anything, from walls to other players, and then draws the user right towards where it landed.

The Grappleshot in Halo Infinite can therefore be both useful and challenging. When it is picked up, players get three charges to use at their discretion. It's important to note, though, that there is a short delay between uses and that the range of these grappling hooks is a bit limited.

The Grappleshot and its grapple hook give players both offensive and defensive capabilities. On the offensive side, attaching it to an enemy brings players right in close, giving them a perfect chance for a quick melee attack. But, if a situation becomes overwhelming, the grappling hook just as easily can attach to walls and allow players to jump up and over obstacles.

Where to Get a Grappling Hook

Grappling hooks, similar to Halo Infinite's other pieces of equipment, appear on equipment spaces on multiplayer maps but only have a limited chance to spawn in. The in-match narrator will announce when special equipment has loaded in, and the symbol to look for is the shape players would expect: A hook.

Because other special equipment will spawn in these same locations, players might have to be patient to get their own Grappleshot. Once it appears, though, players need only walk over the space with this item to acquire it. If they are looking to get the Grappleshot but already have another of the new additions in Halo Infinite, they can swap one for the other at the same location.

Halo Infinite's Multiplayer Beta is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with the full game launching on December 8.
