After a rocky start with lackluster rewards and slow progression, Halo Infinite's events have been improving with every iteration. 343 Industries looks to keep the pattern of growth alive as Halo Infinite's Cyber Showdown event is available now, bringing free cosmetics and a game mode for players to enjoy. There have been three event weeks in Halo Infinite since the game's launch, two of which were Fracture: Tenrai, and one was Winter Contingency. With every Halo Infinite event, players are given an event pass that as they complete challenges specific to it, they will rank up and unlock rewards. Furthermore, events serve as a way for developers to test out upcoming game modes before adding them permanently into the game's rotation, with Fracture: Tenrai introducing Fiesta Slayer for example. Players have known about Cyber Showdown for some time, with the full list of the event's rewards leaking prior to its official announcement trailer.RELATED: Halo Infinite Cyber Showdown Event Rewards LeakThe Cyber Showdown event for Halo Infinite is live, packing a variety of free synthwave cosmetics and a game mode called Attrition, the first new mode since Tactical Slayer and Free-For-All were added. As with previous events, to earn the new limited-time cosmetics in the free event pass, players must complete challenges that are specific to Attrition. In this game mode, each team only has a certain number of lives, with the game ending when all a team's lives are depleted. However, players who are fast enough can revive their teammates to avoid losing the life, changing up the traditional flow of Halo Slayer with a bit more team-focused strategy.

As for the rewards, the leaks were true, with the holographic visor and Mohawk all being attainable for free. Players will have from today, January 18 to February 1 to complete the 10 tiers of the event pass and unlock all the cosmetics. By playing a single match, players will earn the New Heights backdrop for their Spartan ID, it being an image of a city skyline, with a streaky sun in the background, and grid-like water in the foreground, the quintessential synthwave image. Players should also keep an eye on the Shop for more themed content, especially now that 343 Industries reduced the prices of Halo Infinite's cosmetics.

Between the unique theme, the sleek-looking free cosmetics, and the promising new game mode, Cyber Showdown has the makings of a solid event for Halo Infinite. It will be interesting to see how players receive Attrition, in its almost Search and Destroy-styled gameplay—it may be something even worth injecting into Halo Infinite's Ranked Arena modes as well. If it doesn't work out, that's okay too though, as this is what events are for.

Halo Infinite is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
