With an extended first season for Halo: Infinite multiplayer, 343 Industries continues to update and keep the experience feeling fresh for players logging in each day. Late last year, thanks to continued community feedback, 343 updated the available playlists to include more options, including fan favorite modes like Slayer. Fans no longer had to jump into Quick Play and hope the particular mode they needed or wanted would be randomly selected.

In addition to fixes and other updates, the mode continues to see content added in. This includes limited time events like Fractures: Tenrai as well as a unique holiday event which unlocked winter themed items like Peppermint style coatings for Spartan armor and weapons. In addition, Game Pass Ultimate owners can also score free Halo Infinite unlocks each month. This month's bundle includes an Xbox Green coating for the Warthog as well as more challenge swaps and XP boosts.

After the event leaked a bit early, 343 has finally unveiled a brand-new event players can check out over the next couple of weeks along with plenty of new neon-inspired goodies to collect as well. Here's everything Halo Infinite players need to know about the limited time Cyber Showdown event.

What Is Cyber Showdown?

Periodically, new limited time events will be arriving inside of Halo Infinite, similar to what other live service titles like Fortnite or Call of Duty: Warzone.

After a couple of Halo Infinite events called Fractures: Tenrai, this latest one brings more of a neon flair and synthwave to the popular franchise. Cyber Showdown adds a limited time 10 Tier Event Pass that is 100% free for all players. Similar to the revamped Fractures event pass, players will be progressing through all 10 tiers by completing special event challenges that cycle through alongside normal weekly challenges.

Availability and Unique Game Mode

Cyber Showdown is live on January 18 and runs for two weeks ending on January 31. Unlike Fractures: Tenrai, this one won't be returning again during Season 1, so players should make sure to complete their challenges before the two weeks come to an end.

Similar to the Tenrai event bringing the Fiesta mode, Cyber Showdown also comes with its own unique game mode. Attrition is the new addition, and it's a unique take on Halo's team slayer mode. Two teams of four battle it out for kills, though now they share a limited number of lives. Once that pool of lives is out, players can no longer revive and the other team wins. Alongside a life pool, players also have an opportunity to revive downed players before they auto respawn and use up one of the team's revives.

Cyber Showdown Event Pass Unlocks and Store Items

Starting on January 18, players have two weeks to complete 10 tiers of the Event Pass. As expected, special event challenges will rotate in as weekly challenges are completed, which automatically unlock the next reward tier once finished.

As expected, the Event Pass has all sorts of goodies for players to unlock including neon-inspired weapon coatings, new end game stances, emblems, weapon charms, and backdrops. Some of the bigger unlocks includes armor effects like a synthwave visor, electric bubblegum Mark VII coating, as well as a neon mohawk Spartan helmet armor effect.

For those who have some credits to spend inside of the Online Store, they can pick up a couple of bundles like Neon Beat which adds emblems, respawn and running effects, new visor color, and more. There's also a new coating for the Warthog, as well as the Neon Superfly bundle for an additional armor and vehicle coating. Better yet, 343 has finally lowered the prices inside the Store, something the community has been asking it to do for quite a while.

Free Rewards and Ultimate Unlock

Similar to what 343 did with the Fractures: Tenrai event, simply logging in during the Cyber Showdown event will unlock the New Heights backdrop for the player's Spartan ID. The purple backdrop features a cityscape with a setting sun above it, two unicorn hammers in the corner, and a Neon Mohawk spartan in the background.

Players who are able to knock out all of the challenges this week will also unlock the ultimate award which is the Rampant Visor color, giving the Spartan warrior an aggressive red color. This time around, 343 is no longer restricting how fast players progress through the Cyber Showdown event pass. While Tenrai only allowed 7 levels and the Winter Contingency Event enabled 1 level per day, all 10 event challenges are in the Weekly pool, meaning players can grind through all 10 levels if they want, when they want.

Halo Infinite is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
