After months of buildup, the multiplayer for Halo Infinite is now available for play. Since launching on November 15, players have been jumping into online matches and checking out the new content this latest entry brings to the series. In addition to the various modes and new maps, the first-person shooter includes a Battle Pass for fans to purchase and level up.

One of the new features in Halo Infinite compared to previous games in the series is the introduction of a Battle Pass. This reward system provides new cosmetics for players as they earn XP through completing challenges and leveling up. While the pass contains various new cosmetics that can be unlocked over time, such as attachments for armor cores, numerous players have noticed discrepancies between the present system and what 343 Industries promised before launch.

In a post on Reddit, a user known as yuushot197 shared a past video from 343 Industries. This clip from the developer focused on the cosmetics coming to Halo Infinite and spoke specifically about the Battle Pass. According to the developer, the amount of customization available on day one of the multiplayer was supposed to allow for “millions of customization combinations.” In addition, they claimed that most content would be available through only playing the game, with items from the Battle Pass not available to purchase from the in-game store.

However, yuushot197 believed that the video seemed to contradict what was seen at the multiplayer release for Halo Infinite. As a result, the Reddit user appealed to fellow Halo fans, asking if anyone else remembered this video from 343 Industries. Many members of the Halo Infinite community on Reddit were quick to respond. With over 17,000 upvotes in only one day, gamers were frustrated with these contradictory statements from the developers. According to fans, the Spartan customization available at launch is much different than that promised in the video from 343 Industries.

Many were upset with the comment from the developer that most of the cosmetics were “unlocked through playing the game and only through playing the game.” Gamers argued that this comment was incorrect because players could purchase levels for the Battle Pass from the store. This meant that people could access content without having to grind the multiplayer in Halo Infinite. Others claimed that the in-game store sold similar cosmetic items, such as armor coatings, to those found in the Battle Pass, making the reward system seem less exclusive as well.

It will be interesting to see if 343 Industries take any additional steps to listen to fan feedback on this issue. So far, the developers have seemed open to listening to the suggestions from the community as they have made some changes to Battle Pass progression. Time will tell if they go even further, making it easier to unlock more customization for Spartans.

Halo Infinite releases on December 8 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The multiplayer beta is available now.
