Halo Infinite has been one of the most highly anticipated games in recent memory. Leading up to the gameplay reveal during the Xbox Games Showcase fans all over the world were excited to find out what 343 Industries has been working on. While the showing was thrilling for some, there were aspects of the gameplay that let some down.

By the end of the showing, the internet was a buzz about how disappointing the graphics were for Halo Infinite. While the series perhaps hasn't always been on the cutting edge of graphical fidelity, it certainly still has had plenty of awe-inspiring visuals. The gameplay reveal had very little of that.

The result of a lackluster showing of a marque title usually means one thing when it comes to the internet, memes. And when it came to the graphics of this huge Xbox game, the Halo Infinite memes exploded. One meme, in particular, caught comical fire, and his name is Craig.

Craig is the name that the internet has given one particular Brute that was on the wrong end of a melee from the Master Chief himself. Unfortunately, the half a second image of Craig's face shows a very flat and disappointing polygonal structure, making Halo Infinite, the game that is supposed to usher in the next generation, look like something from the Xbox 360 era.

Of course, the internet has a way of making light of disappointment. So while fans were bummed to see the lackluster graphics, Twitter, Reddit, and social media as a whole instantly found a hilarious scapegoat named #CraigtheBrute, and this there is even a popular hashtag being used in his honor.

In the end, it is possible that Halo Infinite will look much better by the time the game launches, and getting upset over a flat Brute face isn't going to help anyone. Likely to be a November title, there is time to continue to polish. The Halo Infinite gameplay was running on a PC during the event and it is fair to hope that the game will be impressive visually come launch.

Microsoft responded to complaints about the graphics of Halo Infinite by letting fans know that the footage shown was a work-in-progress. Thanks to COVID-19, teams working from home, and wanting to simply give fans a taste of the game, the graphics aren't yet complete. But by the time launch arrives, it's possible that the game will look much better. Whether or not that's the case, the internet at least received Craig the Brute for some laughs.

Halo Infinite is in development for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
