Knowing how to break through shields in Halo Infinite can make battles a lot easier. Not every enemy has a shield, but almost every encounter will have multiple enemy types that do. Using the wrong tactics to combat them can lead to an early death.

Even veteran Halo players may not know how to break through shields in Halo Infinite, due to the addition of new guns like the Shock Rifle. The weapon loadouts can be a little confusing if multiplayer hasn't been touched, as this is where these new weapon types were first introduced.

How to Break Through Shields in Halo Infinite

Bassus Boss fight in Halo Infinite

To break through shields in Halo Infinite, players must use Plasma weapons, like the Pulse Carbine, or Plasma Grenades. If fighting a named enemy like the difficult Bassus boss in Halo Infinite, players will know they still have shields if a white bar is above their head.

While battling normal enemies, players can tell if they have a shield due to the warped effect their armor has while shooting at them. This is usually a blue color, but it can vary by enemy type, like the Jackals, who have a noticeable shield that they hold.

Another way to tell if an enemy is shielded is if Kinetic or Power Weapons aren't doing as much damage as they usually do. Plasma weapons are also great for destroying fuel silos very quickly, which are objectives located in places like the Forge of Teash in Halo Infinite.

There are six Plasma Weapons in Halo Infinite:

  • Plasma Pistol
  • Pulse Carbine
  • Ravager
  • Stalker Rifle
  • Needler
  • Plasma Grenade

Players can change grenades in Halo Infinite by pressing left on the d-pad and then the direction of the grenade they want. Press "N" to switch to the previous grenade, and "B" to switch to the next grenade if playing on keyboard and mouse.

The best all-rounder Plasma Weapon in Halo Infinite is the Pulse Carbine. It's a mid-range gun with a small scope, and a relatively quick firing rate. The Stalker Rifle can be used for taking out distant shielded enemies, like sniping Jackals. The Ravager, however, is not recommended for breaking through shields. It takes a long time to charge, and it's easy to miss once charged.

Plasma Pistols have the ability to charge up a shot if RT is held down on controllers. This will break through shields quicker than spamming its main projectiles, but players must be more accurate with their shots. Finally, the Needler is actually very good at taking down tough, unshielded enemies, like the Tremonius boss in Halo Infinite, rather than lowering shields.

Halo Infinite is out now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
