Tips and Tricks to Defeat Bassus Boss in Halo Infinite

Bassus Boss fight in Halo Infinite

The six main tips and tricks to remember when trying to defeat Bassus during the Excavation Site mission in Halo Infinite are:

  • Use a quick-firing Pulse Weapon (ideally the Pulse Carbine) to lower his shields quickly(white bar).
  • Equip and use a Needler (or powerful Kinetic Weapon) to lower his health quickly (red bar).
  • Make sure to use the Grappleshot a lot to escape his powerful hammer blows.
  • Bassus sometimes gets confused if players sidestep left and right on top of one of the rampstake advantage of this!
  • Try and stay away from the yellow coils, as they can kill the Master Chief instantly.
  • If Bassus is still too quick to get a shot in, use a Shock Weapon to temporarily stun him.

How to Defeat Bassus in Halo Infinite

Fighting Bassus in Halo Infinite with the Needler

If players don't have a Pulse Carbine Weapon equipped, pick one up from the nearby rack on the top level. Use the Pulse Carbine to very quickly lower Bassus' shields. One clip should do it on Heroic difficulty.

Lowering his health will not be easy, however. Ideally, pick up a Needler from the floor. Players can scan the area to quickly locate one. Then, alternate between firing at Bassus and retreating by using the Grappleshot. If players have any spare Spartan Cores in Halo Infinite, now is the time to increase shields and lower the Grappleshot cooldown.

Bassus will sometimes get confused if players lure him to the bottom of the room, at the end of the two ramps, and then circle back to the top of a ramp. Sidestepping like Master Chief is going to go down the ramp, and then quickly stepping back to the top will stick him in a loop of changing direction for a short while. Fill him with Halo's iconic Needler ammo during this short moment of confusion.

Alternatively, players can use Shock Weapons to temporarily stun Bassus, and then switch back to the Needler or a powerful Kinetic weapon to lower his health. If Bassus' health isn't lowered quickly enough, his shields will come back. Make sure to switch back to a Pulse Weapon, or change to Plasma Grenades in Halo Infinite to lower them again.

Halo Infinite is out now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
