Hades features a plethora of unique artifacts, both permanent and temporary, that are crucial for your progress. New players can often find themselves overwhelmed by these items, as the game isn't always clear about their uses or how to acquire them. One such item is the Diamond, represented by, you guessed it, a diamond icon.

Diamonds are not particularly useful for gameplay purposes, but they are valuable for purchasing certain peculiar items. This guide covers everything you need to know about Diamonds, including how to obtain them and where to spend them.

Obtaining Diamonds in Hades

hades purchasing diamond from charon

Acquiring Diamonds in Hades is no easy task. You will need to grind a bit if you want more of this precious resource. Some methods require defeating bosses, while others involve fulfilling prophecies. Below are all the ways Zagreus can acquire Diamonds:

  1. Defeating the Bone Hydra Boss: Defeating the Bone Hydra Boss for the first time with each weapon will drop one Diamond. Since there are six weapons, you can earn a total of six diamonds from this method. Additionally, defeating the Hydra with each weapon while at Heat level 20 will reward you with a significant amount of Diamonds.
  2. Completing Prophecies: Various prophecies listed in the Fated List of Minor Prophecies will reward you with Diamonds upon completion
  3. Trading with the Wretched Broker: The Wretched Broker occasionally offers trades where you can exchange other resources for Diamonds. Keep an eye on the broker's offers to take advantage of these trades.
  4. Purchasing from Charon’s Shop: Charon’s Shop sometimes features Diamonds for purchase at 1000 Obol. If you have Charon’s Loyalty Card, the price can be reduced to 800 Obol.
  5. Fishing: You can acquire one Diamond by catching a trout in Greece or the final boss area. Once you catch the trout, trade it with the Head Chef for your reward.
  6. Poseidon's Boon: Poseidon's boon, Sunken Treasure, has a very low chance of dropping a Diamond. While not a reliable method, it’s a potential source worth noting.

While Diamonds may not be as versatile as Chthonic Keys, they still hold significant value, especially for acquiring some of the more expensive items within the game. There are only two NPCs interested in this precious resource: the House Contractor and the Resource Director. In total, you will need 157 Diamonds to purchase everything they offer.

  1. House Contractor:
    • Work Orders: 52 Diamonds are required to purchase various Work Orders, enhancing your underworld renovations.
    • Decorations: 28 Diamonds are needed to acquire various Decorations, adding flair to your abode.
    • Music: To unlock music for the Music Stand, you'll need 67 Diamonds.
  2. Resource Director:
    • Ranks: 10 Diamonds are necessary to purchase Ranks.

While it is possible to trade Diamonds for other resources via the Wretched Broker , it's highly discouraged due to their scarcity and the importance of Diamonds
