There are many ways of obtaining Darkness in Hades. However, it can be difficult to gather a lot of it in a single run. Once players have an idea of what they should be doing to maximize the Darkness they gain in every run, they can potentially earn up to a thousand darkness every time.

The main way to gain the resource is by clearing bosses that have already been beaten once at a certain heat level. There are other ways to increase how much darkness the player will get each run, though.

Hades has been out for a while now and fans have yet to discover these useful secrets in-game. Most players still don't know about these helpful tips.

How To Gain Darkness in Hades

Mirror of Night, Hades

Darkness is one of the core resources in the game. It is used to unlock upgrades in the Mirror of Night, increase your rank with the resource director, make certain trades with the Wretched Broker, and buy some things from the Contractor. Some of these upgrades require upwards of thousands of Darkness, meaning the player will need to farm the resource.

Here are all the ways players can gain the darkness resource in Hades:

  • Defeating bosses at a lower, or similar, heat level compared to before. Each boss in the run drops between 50 and 250 darkness.
  • Chamber rewards.
  • Certain Infernal trove rewards.
  • Clearing Fated Prophecies.
  • As a reward from Sisyphus in Tartarus.
  • A boon of Poseidon, Sunken Treasure, drops anywhere between 50 and 220 darkness depending on the rarity. This boon can be claimed many times.
  • Fish caught from Chaos' realm can be exchanged for Darkness with the Head Chef.

How To Farm Darkness in Hades

Once players know how to gain Darkness, it's a simple affair to maximize the amount they can obtain in each run. Follow these simple steps to maximize the farming potential:

  • Infernal Arms: Players should use the weapon they are most comfortable with. It might be tempting to go with the weapon that has Dark Thirst activated, but using the weapon with the fastest clear time will lead to a better overall outcome when considering time spent vs. resources gained.
  • Boons: There are two main Boons that the player should look for. The Poseidon Boon, Ocean's Bounty, and the Chaos Boon, Eclipse. Both boons will increase the amount of Darkness gained from each instance.

Sunken Treasure, another Poseidon Boon, will net the player a handful of Darkness as well, and can be chosen multiple times. However, players should only choose it if they are confident they'll be able to complete the run without any of the other offered boons.

  • Mirror Of Darkness: The most important upgrade that players need from the Mirror of Darkness is Fated Authority. This upgrade will let the player change the chamber reward randomly to a different one. Use this on resource chambers that aren't giving Darkness, but only after obtaining Eclipse from Chaos. Alternatively, players can use Fated Persuasion, which lets them randomly change a boon. This is great if players are having difficulty getting Ocean's Bounty or Eclipse. Both these upgrades are viable options for a darkness focused run.
    • Make sure you don't have the Dark Foresight upgrade, as it will reduce the amount of times Darkness can spawn as a chamber reward.
  • Keepsakes: The linchpin of a Darkness run are the two boons. Players should use the Conch Cell and Cosmic Egg, the keepsakes of Poseidon and Chaos respectively, to obtain said boons in the early stages. Afterward, they can change the keepsake to their preferred option.
  • Companions: Companion Shady, obtained from Sisyphus, drops care packages when summoned, which contain the Darkness resource as well. Players should only summon Shady after they have gotten resource boosting boons from Poseidon and Chaos.
  • Well of Charon: If the player encounters any upgrade in the Well of Charon that increases Boon rarity, gives them a chance to see a Chaos gate, or get Darkness, they should buy it.
  • Scroll of Punishment: Always choose the lowest heat level. Since players aren't trying to collect bounties, there's no point in making the game more difficult on themselves.
