In 2023 alone, the Indie scene has delivered great experiences like Dave the Diver, Dredge, and Tchia, and things are only going to continue to get better. But despite those great titles already available, the Indie game that is still on everyone's mind is Hades 2.
Announced during the 2022 Game Awards, Hades 2 immediately became many gamers' most anticipated upcoming Indie game. Coming hot off the heels of the original game, which was a Best Indie award winner, Hades 2 looks like a true successor already, with a grander plot, the potential for more climactic set pieces, and an exciting slew of new mythological characters. The only issue with Hades 2 already being so popular, however, is that fans are desperate for any crumb of news that Supergiant is willing to give. Unfortunately, it might be a while before they hear anything more about the game.
When Fans Can Expect To See Hades 2
As mentioned up top, Hades 2 was originally announced during the 2022 Game Awards. Soon after this announcement, developer Supergiant Games stated that Hades 2 would be getting an early access release on PC before it was released fully on all platforms, following the same general release schedule that its predecessor ended up going with. In its initial announcement, Supergiant claimed that Hades 2's early access release would drop sometime in 2023, and that's all that fans have been told so far.
Supergiant Games has made no subsequent follow-ups on Hades 2, meaning that no official information has been given since its initial reveal back in December of last year. But while this means that fans have been left in the dark, it also seemingly implies that Supergiant does still plan on releasing Hades 2 into early access at some point this year. It seems likely that Hades 2's early access release will want to avoid the busier release months of September and October, and perhaps head for a November release window. Or, alternatively, a December release date could also be likely, potentially shadow-dropping alongside a Game Awards announcement.
Once Hades 2 has released in early access on PC, it'll probably stay there for quite some time. If the first game is any indication, then Hades 2 could end up being in early access for around two years, with the original game first dropping on Steam in December 2018, and hitting its full release in September 2020 for PC and Switch. The original Hades then took another year to release on other platforms like PS4 and Xbox One, launching in August 2021.
It's currently unclear just how closely Hades 2 will follow its predecessor's release pattern. Supergiant hasn't confirmed how long Hades 2 will be in early access for, or even if Hades 2 is planning to release on other platforms aside from PC. With the original Hades finding a great deal of success on the Nintendo Switch, it does seem likely that Supergiant will want to repeat the process again for Hades 2, but confirmation of additional platforms is still yet to come. If Hades 2 does end up following the original game's release schedule, then fans will probably see an early access release this year, and then a full release in 2025, with various trailers and gameplay breakdowns appearing in between.
