Highlights

  • Hades 2 could easily surpass its predecessor with an array of engaging boss encounters hand-picked from Greek mythology.
  • The sequel will feature Melinoe tackling the formidable threat of Chronos, a Titan aiming to wage war against the gods.
  • Hades 2 has a chance to offer thrilling boss fights, by including battles against Titans beyond Chronos, such as Hyperion, Iaptus, and Atlas.

Though there weren't too many of them, one of the biggest highlights of the first Hades was its selection of bosses, all of which fully embraced the game's Greek mythology setting. From the three varied Fury boss fights, to the intense skeletal Hydra, to the unrelenting duo of Theseus and Asterius, to finally, the boss of the underworld himself and the game's namesake, the original Hades offered a good array of boss encounters, though Hades 2 could easily blow it out of the water.

Though it's currently unclear how Hades 2's length will compare to its predecessor, it seems fair to assume that the sequel will deliver at least another handful of engaging boss fights, all once again hand-picked from Greek mythology to best fit the context of the game's narrative. And this time around, Supergiant won't need to dig too deep for inspiration, with Hades 2 already having the ideal boss line-up waiting in the wings.

After Hades 2, The Series Should 'Steal' a God of War Trick

Hades 2 looks as though it's shaping up to be yet another jaunt through Greek mythology, but there's room for the series to borrow a God of War trick.

Hades 2 Already Has The Perfect Boss Line-Up Ready to Go

Hades 2 Is Bringing Titans to the Forefront

While the first Hades saw players control the son of the titular underworld god as he attempts to break free from his father's control and escape Tartarus, Hades 2 will have players controlling Zagreus' half-sister, Melinoe as she tackles a much wider threat. According to what Supergiant has revealed so far, Hades 2's main story will revolve around the Titan Chronos as he breaks free from his underworld prison and begins his march towards Mount Olympus, where he presumably plans on waging war against the gods. While taking down Hades was no small feat in the original game, Chronos could potentially be on a whole other level.

In Greek mythology, Cronus - also spelled Kronos - is the Titan king, who rose to the throne after mutilating his father, Uranus. After marrying his sister Rhea, Cronus has five children, Demeter, Hestia, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon. But being paranoid that one of his children would eventually betray him just as he did his own father, Cronus ate each of his five children the moment they were birthed. Seeing no alternative, Rhea decides to hide her sixth pregnancy from Cronus, birthing Zeus on the island of Crete.

After years and years of training, Zeus became strong enough to challenge his father, but not before tricking him into drinking a concoction that forced him to throw up his siblings one-by-one. With all of his siblings now at his side, Zeus waged war on his father and the rest of the Titans in a fierce conflict known as the Titanomachy. After a decade-long war, the gods of Olympus eventually defeated the Titans, imprisoning most of them in Tartarus, including Cronus himself.

Titans Could Offer Some Varied Boss Fights in Hades 2

With plenty of mythology to draw inspiration from, Hades 2 has some thrilling boss fights just raring to go. Beginning with the main threat himself, Hades 2's version of Cronus, named Chronos, is sure to offer an intense boss fight, especially if he ends up being the final fight in the game. Though his in-game powers aren't currently known, the variation on his name might suggest that he's an amalgamation of both the Titan father, and the personification of time, perhaps suggesting he'll wield some kind of time-bending abilities.

But Chronos is likely only one of the threats that Melinoe will face in Hades 2. As mentioned earlier, according to Greek mythology, many Titans were imprisoned in Tartarus alongside Cronus, and it would make sense for any and all of them to appear in Hades 2 as boss fights. Some possible Titan boss fights include Hyperion, who wields the power of the sun, Iaptus, who controls mortality itself, and Atlas, who has renowned endurance and strength.
