Highlights

  • Witch's Staff in Hades 2 offers range over melee combat, with attack patterns for basic, Special, and Omega attacks.
  • Boons like Extending Wallop and Wave Attack enhance the staff's abilities, allowing for crowd control and increased damage.
  • Uncanny Fortitude and other Boons provide health bonuses based on Magick energy, offering strategic advantages in battle.

The Witch’s Staff is the weapon that Melinoe will begin with in Hades 2, differing from what Zagreus got in the first Hades, as he wielded a broadsword. It’s a case of range versus melee combat and, to Melinoe’s credit, she’s quite gifted at wielding the weapon as well as using Magick.

Hades 2: How Long to Beat

Though Hades 2 is only in Early Access right now, it still offers a nearly complete experience – and takes a considerable amount of time to finish.

Like all weapons in Hades 2, the Witch’s Staff has four attack patterns. There are basic and Special attacks and then the Omega versions of those attacks which are charged-up versions. Another way players can enhance their weapons is through Boons and these are some of the best to pair with the Witch’s Staff.

8 Extending Wallop

Extend The Range Of Basic Attacks

Extending Wallop in Hades 2

Extending Wallop is a Boon from the Daedalus Hammer skill tree that will give the Witch’s Staff a longer range and enemies that are further away will take more damage. It’s kind of like turning the Witch’s Staff into a sniper rifle or more like a cannon, which is fun to imagine existing in the game.

There are guns in the game already, as Eris uses several in her boss battle in Hades 2. Gun analogies aside, Extending Wallop can keep players safe from hark by allowing them to fire from a distance.

7 Wave Strike

Waves Knock Back Foes

Wave Attack in Hades 2

Most of the Witch’s Staff's normal and charged attacks are ranged, giving players a relatively safe area to operate in. However, sometimes enemies can come in swarms, and it’s hard to fend them all off. That’s where Wave Attack comes in handy, which is a Boon granted from the lord of the sea in Hades 2, Poseidon.

This Boon will add a wave attack to normal strikes which will push enemies back. It’s a good Boon for crowd control, and it adds extra damage too.

6 Nova Flourish

Specials Deal More Damage In A Wider Area

Nova Flourish in Hades 2

The charged-up version of Melinoe’s Special will cast a large magical ball of energy to explode upon enemy contact. This impact can be increased with a Boon like Nova Flourish, which comes from Apollo, the god of light in Hades 2, who has some of the best Boons in the game.

Hades 2: Every Weapon In Early Access, Ranked

With Hades 2 now in early access, players have been experimenting with the game's starting weapons, and have found that some are better than others.

Nova Flourish will increase the damage area of Specials, making it easier to deal with large crowds. A good combo would be to trap enemies in Cast traps to then blow them up with a charged Special.

5 Sworn Flourish

Sworn Flourish in Hades 2

Sworn Flourish can be acquired from Hera, the queen of all gods and goddesses in Hades 2. It will add the Hitch effect to Special attacks, which is an interesting status effect for a roguelike.

Afflicted enemies will take damage from other afflicted enemies, causing a chain of damage sort of like Poison in other RPGs. In a blast radius, this could finish off a group quickly. Using it on a boss in Hades 2 that calls minions like Charybdis or Chaos wouldn’t be a bad strategy.

4 Ordinary Talent

Reduce Magick Costs

Ordinary Talent in Hades 2

Chaos’ Boons come with conditions that players have to fulfill in Hades 2. To get the prize, players have to go through some sort of trial.

For Ordinary Talent, the next three deities players will come across will all have Common rarity Boons attached. After that, all Magick costs will be reduced by 35%, which is a huge margin, allowing players to make the most of the charged moves for the Witch’s Staff along with Cast circles.

3 Uncanny Fortitude

Gain Health Bonuses Based On Magick

Uncanny Fortitude in Hades 2

Uncanny Fortitude is a Boon from the lord of the forge, Hephaestus, in Hades 2. It’s not necessarily a Boon that will make the Witch’s Staff stronger, but it will make Melinoe as a character stronger.

Hades 2: Best Keepsakes, Ranked

Players can collect Keepsakes by befriending NPCs in Hades 2, which will grant them different bonuses. These are the best ones in the game.

Uncanny Fortitude will increase health by a percentage based on how much Magick energy players have. The more they have, the better the health boost will be. To make this Boon better, players should pick up as many vials of Magick as possible if they see the symbol on the doors in Hades 2.

2 Lightning Lance

Aim Cast Manually With Bonus Lightning Damage

Lightning Lance in Hades 2

When players use their Cast normally, it will create a circle below Melinoe. Enemies that walk into it will be trapped, allowing players to escape hordes or to damage them in large numbers. There are various Boons that will alter Casts in Hades 2 like Lightning Lance from Zeus.

With Lightning Lance, players can control where their Cast gets set up, offering more ways to strategize during battle. The bonus on top of that is that Zeus will strike foes within the Cast with bolts of lightning.

1 Saved Breath

Reduce Cost Of Cast

Saved Breath in Hades 2

This final Boon from Hades 2’s god of swiftness, Hermes, will help with Cast Magick too. Saved Breath will reduce the cost of Casts and the rarer the Boon is, the more Magick energy will be saved. Because the Witch’s Staff is a range-based weapon, relying on Casts to help with accuracy is the perfect combo.

Combining Saved Breath with Lightning Lance will only make Casts better. Overall, players will want to craft this weapon’s build around gaining as much Magick energy as possible, so that Casts and charged attacks can never run out.
