The first trailer for actor Jason Statham and director Guy Ritchie's upcoming film Wrath of Man has arrived, and in true Statham style, it is filled with over-the-top action. Set over a slower version of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues,” the MGM trailer packs in just the right amount of punches, gunfire, and intensity to draw in all the Statham fans.

The revenge thriller reunites the Statham with Ritchie and is expected to arrive in theaters in May. The two-and-a-half minute trailer was shared by Ritchie on his Twitter page, immediately resulting in a slew of comments flowing in, with most of his followers expressing excitement over the action-flick.

Ritchie started creating the hype around the trailer last week, when he revealed on his Twitter account that the official video would be released on March 29. Keeping his word, he introduced fans to Statham’s mysterious character, known simply as “H,” who seems to be holding a grudge. The Wrath of Man trailer reveals how H joins an armored truck company, which seems to move large sums of money around Los Angeles. But, he seems to get involved in a heist led by Post Malone, which then reveals his true nature, as he manages to kill all the robbers with frightening precision. After the incident, his entire crew becomes suspicious and starts looking into his past. It later becomes clear that he is on a mission to take revenge for the murder of his son. Some would argue that the trailer reveals too much, but that isn’t deterring Statham fans.

The movie is based on Le Convoyeur, a French action-thriller that was released in 2004. It brings back Statham and Ritchie, who previously worked on three other projects together, including 1998’s Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, 2000’s Snatch, and 2005’s Revolver. It has already been confirmed that Ritchie and Statham are working on another project, a global spy film Five Eyes.

Statham was last seen in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, which released in 2019. The action film saw Statham reprise his role as Deckard Shaw from previous Fast and Furious films, in which his character was primarily an antagonist.

Wrath of Man was announced in October 2019, after Miramax and MGM acquired the rights to produce a remake of the French film. While it was originally scheduled for a January 2021 release, as with many other projects, the film faced some delays. Apart from Statham, the film stars Josh Hartnett, Scott Eastwood, Holt McCallany, Jeffrey Donovan, Laz Alonso, Raul Castillo, and Niamh Algar.

Wrath of Man will be released in theaters on May 7, 2021.
