Gundam Evolution, one of the 2022 additions to the Hero Shooter genre, is a free-to-play game. But, with that f2p status also comes microtransactions in the form of Cosmetics, EC Pods (Loot Boxes), Unit Skins, and of course the Battle Pass Premium Upgrade.

Usually, when games incorporate these systems, they also use an in-game currency that players must convert actual money into in order to buy items or the Battle Pass. For Gundam Evolution that currency is Evo Coins. So, let's look specifically at what EVO coins are, what they're used for, and how players get them.

What Evo Coins Are

As explained above, Evo Coins are the in-game currency used to purchase a variety of things in Gundam Evolution. Similar to things like Overwatch Coins in Overwatch 2 or Genesis Crystals in Genshin Impact, they're a way for players to spend in-game currency to obtain in-game cosmetics or unlockables.

It should also be noted that Evo Coins are used starting with the oldest ones obtained first, they're non-refundable, and they're inaccessible if a player is suspended or banned from the game. Additionally, they don't expire either, which was the source of a lot of confusion at first.

What They're Used For

Quite simply, Evo Coins are used to purchase things in the game. For example, players can use them to:

  • Unlock new Units (though Currency can also be used)
  • Obtain more EC Pods (both Limited and Regular)
  • Upgrade their Season Pass
  • Purchase Season Pass Levels
  • Or purchase price reduced Item Packs from the Shop

They're currency and have no actual impact on gameplay as players can only use them in ways that unlock new cosmetics or characters at the absolute most.

How To Obtain Evo Coins

Now, how does one get these Evo Coins in Gundam Evolution? Well, currently, there's only one "real" way and that's to buy them with real-world money. Technically, players can also obtain them from the Battle Pass, but only from the Premium Pass which costs 990 Coins to unlock. Thankfully, players will also receive a total of 990 Coins between Level 1 and Level 59 of the Battle Pass, so at least they'll get back what they spent eventually, but there's no net "gain" of Evo Coins that way.

The Gundam Evolution website does state that Evo coins are also obtained in other ways, but as to what those methods are, they haven't been specified. It hasn't been confirmed but fans speculate it's likely that in the near future the game will have some sort of update or event that will have Evo Coins as a reward for participation.
