End of Dragons, the newest Guild Wars 2 expansion, is officially live. To celebrate the return to the colorful continent of Cantha, Guild Wars 2 released a short launch trailer showing off some cyberpunk action and a hint of the mysteries players will discover in the story.

Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons does for the eastern-themed continent of Cantha what Path of Fire did for Elona, revisiting the lands for the first time in the 250 years since they were featured in Guild Wars 1. The Canthan Empire has received quite the facelift since then; a jadepunk revolution has introduced a technological renaissance, fueled by the mystic Dragon Jade found within the petrified Jade Sea Guild Wars fans will recognize.

Not all is peaceful in Cantha, however, as the trailer shows. The Bladesworn samurai and Mechanist characters highlighted in the trailer dispatch a squadron of renegade jade constructs in the neon New Kaineng city, showcasing the abilities of the new Guild Wars 2 elite specializations in an incredible painted style reminiscent of Arcane. The scene ends with an ominous visage of an Elder Dragon, and a cryptic warning of the impending dangerous players must confront in End of Dragons.

Guild Wars 2 also announced a number of new Gem Store deals which coincide with the launch of End of Dragons. For 2,400 gems–the cash shop currency purchasable with real money or in-game gold–players can buy the Launch Supply Drop, which includes a delivery of premium items every week for the first month of the game’s launch. This package deal includes a collection of cosmetic unlocks, including weapons, dyes, boosts, minis, and more.

Though it has only just released, Guild Wars 2 fans are loving End of Dragons. Many are lauding the new Canthan zones in End of Dragons as some of the best-looking areas yet. Furthermore, the phenomenal launch cinematic itself is a cut above any other cinematic put out by ArenaNet. Fans are already asking for ArenaNet release a show in the same style as the cinematic, as Riot did with Arcane for League of Legends.

Though Guild Wars 2 has put out 2 different Living World seasons since then–each with almost an expansion’s worth of content itself–it has been almost 5 years since Path of Fire’s release. Though they’ve had plenty to do, players have had to wait patiently for a true expansion pack and all the new features that come with it. Through delays from the pandemic and equipment shortage, Guild Wars 2 has persisted, and its fans will now finally be rewarded for their patience–and will finally get a new login screen for the first time since 2017.

Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons is available now for PC.
