Marvel's video game division has had a bit of a shaky track record over the last few years. On one end of the spectrum, Insomniac's Spider-Man games have breathed new life into the superhero gaming genre, delivering authentic, wonderful stories set in the Marvel universe packaged together with innovative and compelling gameplay. But on the other end of the spectrum, there's Marvel's Avengers, a greedy live-service disaster. Eidos' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy game definitely belongs more to the former camp, though its reception wasn't quite as ground-breaking as Spider-Man's.

When Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy launched back in October 2021, it was met with a decent critical reception. The game's surprisingly deep story, complex character relationships, and its core squad-based action gameplay all combined to give the game high scores of 8s and 9s. For some reason, though, Guardians of the Galaxy just didn't have the same staying power as Spider-Man, falling out of the public consciousness just a month or so after release. But with Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 right around the corner, it could be time for Eidos to revisit its ragtag group of space misfits.

Eidos' Guardians of the Galaxy Should Do Something Special for Volume 3's Release

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 is James Gunn's final run with the original cast of beloved miscreants, and while most of them are sure to turn up again in the MCU's many slated crossovers, it's extremely likely that this is the last time fans will get to see this core team dynamic how it has been for almost a decade now. To mark the occasion, Eidos should do something special with its Guardians of the Galaxy game, mutually promoting both the movie and the game.

At the bare minimum, Eidos' Guardians of the Galaxy should go on sale around the same time as Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 releases. With Guardians now being almost two years old, it's very likely that any fans who wanted to try the game have already done so, especially with how often the game gets put on sale, and with its place on PS Plus Extra and Xbox Game Pass. However, there are always those that hold out for the very best deal possible, and one final sales push for Guardians of the Galaxy wouldn't be an awful idea.

But what Eidos should ideally do is bring some new content to Guardians of the Galaxy to tie in with the upcoming movie. One of the easiest ways to tie in with the Guardians Volume 3 is to add movie-themed cosmetics to the game for free. Edios' Guardians had quite a few collectible alternate costumes in the game, with some of them even based around the team's appearances in the first two MCU movies. It would be fun to see the Guardians' new blue and red costume come to the game via a free update, or the film's look for Adam Warlock.

But if Eidos really wanted to go above and beyond, it could add some meatier content to Guardians of the Galaxy, perhaps even a new mission. This new mission could follow on from where Guardians ended, and maybe give fans a story quest centered around Adam Warlock, tying in neatly with his upcoming MCU debut. Of course, this is extremely unlikely to happen, with new content requiring a lot of time, money, and effort to produce, all for very little payoff. One final wish would be for Eidos to announce that it's working on another Guardians of the Galaxy game, though that also seems very unlikely.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
