Grand Theft Auto Online's The Contract missions are popular for a lot of reasons, but some players aren't thrilled that the cutscene skip function is disabled. Several years after the GTA Online DLC's release, fans are voicing their opinions about it not being an option.

The Contract update for GTA Online released back at the end of 2021, introducing a series of missions that sees GTA 5 protagonist Franklin return to the story. However, the biggest headliner is the presence of real-world rap star Dr. Dre, who provided his voice, likeness, and then-new music to the game. The Contract was a big hit with players, but years after its release, some of the luster has worn off when replaying it.

GTA Online: Best Vehicles, Ranked

Thriving in San Andreas requires a great set of wheels. What are the best vehicles in Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto Online?

Reddit user and Grand Theft Auto Online player JayStorm8108 shared their opinion that cutscenes should be skippable in The Contract with the GTA Online subreddit, and it seems that many players are in agreement. While not every cutscene in the game can be skipped, many can be, which is a must when players are playing and re-playing missions and heists to earn GTA$ and exclusive rewards. However, this functionality is unavailable in The Contract, so players have to watch the cutscenes every time.

Why Can't GTA Online The Contract Cutscenes Be Skipped?

While several players agreed with the OP that it's annoying to have to rewatch the cutscenes every time, others pointed out that it may be due to the exclusivity of Dr. Dre's involvement. The Contract previewed new tracks by the artist, and a lot of money was likely tied up in the deal with Rockstar Games. While it's not clear whether one or both parties wanted the cutscenes to be like this, given the timing of some elements of the game, it's definitely an intentional choice. Some fans also speculated that cutscenes can't be skipped to limit how quickly players can earn GTA$ from repeating the story.

When The Contract released, many players had no issue with the cutscenes, as the new content in GTA Online was fun, and updates had been in high demand. The ability to hang out with the star in-game and hear exclusive tracks was also a big deal for a lot of Dr. Dre fans. However, that was over two years ago now, and the inability to skip cutscenes likely puts The Contract lower on the list of replayed missions for some players. Thankfully, The Contract adds plenty for players to do beyond the core story missions, but some would still like to see this function added to the game now that a couple of years have elapsed.

While GTA Online could add this function at any time, allowing at least those who have already played the missions to skip ahead, it's unlikely at this point that it will happen. Although GTA Online is still receiving updates, the state of The Contract's missions may be set in stone regardless of how much time passes. Players will either have to choose a different mission to play or just be content to wait and watch the cutscenes.
