  • Some GTA Online players recently discovered that it's possible to play out the full smoking emote and do more than two puffs on a cigarette.
  • The official GTA 6 announcement has boosted engagement in GTA 5 and GTA Online.
  • Recent updates include bounty-hunting missions and new vehicles.

After more than 10 years of playing GTA Online, a fan has only recently noticed a neat little detail about the smoking emote. GTA Online was released in October 2013 as the multiplayer counterpart of Grand Theft Auto 5. It has been more than a decade since the launch, and the game is still keeping players engaged with new content and regular updates.

The most recent GTA Online update has introduced players to the new bounty-hunting missions provided by Maude Eccles from the single-player mode. The update has also added a number of new vehicles, like all previous Summer updates. Three of these nine are emergency vehicles that can be used in Dispatch Work for Vincent Effenburger. With this update, Rockstar has also increased the payouts and timers for several missions and activities. In the middle of all these new activities, players are still finding ways to amuse themselves by finding little details in the gameplay.

Weird GTA Online Glitch Kills Player While They're in an Elevator

A GTA Online player shares their glitchy and unfortunate elevator journey with the community, where they get killed instead of reaching another floor.

Smoking is an emote in GTA Online which makes the character take two puffs from a cigarette and then dispose of it. Of course, the player needs to buy cigarettes from a shop or through the menu if they want to use this emote. It's worth mentioning that, no matter how many times the emote button is pressed, the player's character only takes two puffs and never smokes the full cigarette. Reddit user TheLewJD recently pointed out that it's possible to smoke the whole cigarette by holding both of the sticks on a controller. The player also mentions in their post that it took them 10 years to notice this.

Though the player in question discovered it recently, it's not a new mechanic in the game. The option to play out the full emote was always there from the beginning, but it wasn't explicitly mentioned anywhere in the controls menu. Many players already know the trick, as one commenter points out. However, most commenters on the post admit that they didn't know that players could smoke a full cigarette in the game. These small details and Easter eggs in GTA Online keep players engaged and interested in the game even a decade after its release.

GTA 6 Is the Next Big Title from Rockstar Games

Rockstar has recently revealed that the long-awaited GTA 6 will be launched in the Fall of 2025. This announcement even resulted in higher player engagement in GTA 5 and GTA Online. Reports show that compared to the previous year's stats, 35% more players are logging in to GTA 5, and the increase is 23% in GTA Online. It seems that players are trying to reacquaint themselves with Grand Theft Auto's gameplay or just want to revisit the game world before the launch of the next title.

Although there's a year left before the next title comes out, Rockstar has already started teasing GTA 6 with little details introduced to the existing multiplayer mode. After the Summer update, neckwear from the GTA 6 trailer was added to GTA Online. These little efforts make sure that players stay hyped for the upcoming game.
