The Gangbanger Robbery is a Salvage Yard Heist in GTA Online where you work with Jamal Amir to acquire a car for his brother, Yusuf. Akin to the other four in this segment, it is available on a rotation basis and three can be carried out every week. The selection of cars is vast as well, with the overall earning from one heist ranging from $250,000 - $500,000.

This is one of the longest Salvage Yard Heists in GTA Online and takes quite some effort, especially in the finale. The background story changes to an extent in each run, but the first one is the same for all players. Let’s take a look.

Planning The Gangbanger Robbery

GTA Online Salvage Yard Heist - The Gangbanger Robbery Planning Wall

Jamal has a particular car in mind for Yusuf, one that belongs to a high-rep gangster. Although he doesn’t have its location, his friend King Tiny, a former Ballas member, will tell him where to find it. This puts a wrench in the plans since King Tiny is currently in jail, but that’s where you come in. You need to break King Tiny out of the police station and drop him off at his personal chopper at the LSIA. In return, you’ll get the Salvage Yard Heist target car’s location.

Since the Gangbanger Robbery can be a bit time-consuming and tricky to execute, the right preparation is key.

Scope Out

GTA Online Salvage Yard Heist - The Gangbanger Robbery - Scope Out

Standard across all five Salvage Yard Heists in GTA Online, you need to figure out your method of approach before the entire plan is laid out. Once you choose the car marked for The Gangbanger Robbery in the Salvage Yard’s Planning Computer, you can initiate Scope Out and head to the vantage point marked on the map.

When you're there, Jamal will talk to you about the approach. You will have to take two photos from around that spot: one of the air vent that you'll throw a gas grenade through, and another of the police helicopter that will be used to land on the roof. With these two done, head to the camera icon marked on the bridge across from you. Remember not to fly over the police station if you're using an Oppressor Mk II in GTA Online, as you will get a 3-star Wanted Level.

Once you take a picture of the precinct's rear exit from the overhead bridge, head back to the Salvage Yard. The detailed breakdown will then be available via the Planning Wall.

Planning Work #1: Police Maverick (Mandatory)

This Planning Work mission is quite tricky to execute smoothly, especially if you don’t wish to go on a shooting spree. The job is to steal a Police Maverick, which you will use to approach the Mission Row Police Station without contest in this Salvage Yard Heist’s finale.

Once you trigger the mission from the Planning Wall, head to the Weasel News Building and hack the network via the VOLTlab minigame. This will show Jamal a live feed of a police situation before it gets to others, and show you where to steal the chopper from.

GTA 5 Locations That Are Based On Real-Life

Like previous Grand Theft Auto games, Grand Theft Auto 5 contains locations that are based on actual real-world places.

The final leg of this Planning Work mission is a bit frustrating. It is recommended that you use a car to approach the building. Opting for an Oppressor Mk II, the CEO Buzzard helicopter, and the like will raise an alarm as soon as you’re in the vicinity.

Once you reach the building spot, look around for a ladder that takes you to the roof. Avoid the security cameras and the cops’ line of sight when going for the Police Maverick. If you do raise an alarm, go ahead and steal the helicopter before you get run over by all the cops coming in. Now all you need to do is fly off, lose the Wanted Level, and deliver the Maverick to the marked location.

Planning Work #2: Tactical Gear (Mandatory)

GTA Online Salvage Yard Heist - The Gangbanger Robbery Planning Work - Tactical Gear

Since you won’t have your own weapons in this Salvage Yard Heist's finale, you will need some strong tactical gear to ensure your survival. The job here is to raid an IAA lockup where a shady deal is going on, and steal a Riot Van with tactical gear like armor, BZ Gas Grenades, and the like.

Before you head in, ensure you are stocked up on snacks, armor, and strong weapons. If you have a personal bulletproof vehicle with mounted weapons or a helicopter with missiles, use them. Once you reach the location, take out the vehicles and rogue IAA agents at the entrance. Climb to the roof and head inside the building. When you descend all the way inside, go into the garage and eliminate everyone present. Search the Riot vans to find the one that has the tactical gear and escape from the lot.

When you’re outside, simply drive away to the Salvage Yard. You will have some enemies on your tail, but they won’t be an issue.

Planning Work #3: Disrupt Equipment (Optional)

GTA Online Salvage Yard Heist - The Gangbanger Robbery Planning Work - Disrupting Equipment

This Planning Work mission is common to all Salvage Yard Heists in GTA Online, although the details change between them. The aim here is to destroy gas masks and key equipment so that you face less resistance when infiltrating the Mission Row Police Station in The Gangbanger Robbery’s finale.

Once the mission is started, head to the police lockup and eliminate the two cops outside and the three inside. Destroy the shipment crates using a grenade launcher and find the details of the other target vehicles. Now, go to each and destroy them before the 10-minute timer ends. The mission will be marked complete when the time runs out, the target vehicles are blown up, or you die beforehand.

Players who find themselves bored in GTA Online should try the following cool activities to spice things up.

Completing the Gangbanger Robbery

Once all the mandatory Planning Work missions are complete, GTA Online players can move on to the robbery task.

Task #1: Stun Guns (Mandatory)

Since this GTA Online Salvage Yard Heist’s finale involves jailbreaking King Tiny from the Mission Row Police Station, Jamal doesn't want you to Rambo the whole precinct. To avoid a shootout (which would likely also lead to King Tiny being eliminated), you will need to use non-lethal guns. This is where this task comes in.

Head to the green Robbery Task icon on the map, near the Diamond Casino or the Pacific Bluffs Country Club, and call Jamal. He will instruct you to steal a cache of stun guns from a Merryweather Security Dilettante parked nearby. All you have to do is search the marked area for the distinctive car, take the briefcase, escape the security that gets called in, and head back to the Salvage Yard.

Task #2: Getaway Vehicle (Mandatory)

GTA Online Salvage Yard Heist - The Gangbanger Robbery Task - Getaway Vehicle

Fortunately, you don't have to run the risk of losing your personal vehicle, even if it's something relatively slow. Since you will theoretically have a lot of cops on your tail in The Gangbanger Robbery’s finale in GTA Online, you need to get a fast and durable getaway vehicle.

There's no need to waste cash on the fastest GTA Online vehicles when they can just as easily be stolen for a joyous ride across Los Santos.

Head to the green Robbery Task icon on the map, and speak with Jamal. He will task you with stealing an appropriate model from an auto shop nearby that is filled with stolen cars, seemingly from a gang operation. Make sure you're kitted out with snacks, body armor, and weapons, as you'll soon have a shootout on your hands.

Once you're in, take cover and kill all the enemies present. Choose a fast car from this autoshop from among those present and exit. Now, you will have some gang members in decently fast cars after you, so make your way to the marked spots and store the getaway vehicle in one. Leave the area, and the job will be done.

Task #3: Weapon Stash (Mandatory)

GTA Online Salvage Yard Heist - The Gangbanger Robbery Task - Weapon Stash

Another key mission in The Gangbanger Robbery, you will need to store a weapon cache to acquire when you hit the police station. As such, while the first part will have you using stun guns, the second and third parts will allow you to use more dangerous models.

This task is relatively simple. Head to the green marker on the map and speak with Jamal. Once you’re done, go to the designated Ammu-Nation branch and look for the weapon cache. Go to the police station’s rear exit, the one you photographed earlier, and stash the weapons under the green dumpster there.

The worst guns in GTA Online are definitely not worth the asking price, and players should skip them for more viable options.

Remember to hurry when you’re in the compound, as you will get the cops on your tail if the Suspicion bar fills up. Once finished, leave the area and go a certain distance to mark the job done.

Task #4: Masks (Optional)

GTA Online Salvage Yard Heist - The McTony Robbery Task - Masks

This task is the same as it is for other Salvage Yard Heists. The aim here is to reduce the number of pursuers you have once you steal the target car in the finale. You can choose to skip it, since the overall impact is negligible at best.

If you do wish to get a free mask, head to Vespucci Masks on the beach and simply make your choice. The task will be completed right away.

The Gangbanger Robbery Finale

Good missions in GTA Online involve some nice shooting, tricky objectives, and a cool chase. The Gangbanger Robbery’s finale brings in all these elements, and more. If you’re just in it to farm the cash, there’s also a trick to make it fairly easy; it comes courtesy of the community and veteran YouTube channel, GTA Series Videos.

Before getting started with this Salvage Yard Heist, take a look at the bonus challenges that can get you some extra cash:

  • No cop lives lost: $10,000
  • Jailbreak in 3 minutes: $10,000
  • King Tiny Has At Least 75% Health: $10,000
  • All Challenges Complete: $20,000

After all the mandatory missions are done, and the optional ones if interested, start the heist's finale from the Planning Wall and collect the stored Police Maverick. Use it to make an uncontested approach to the Mission Row Police Station’s roof. Once you’re there, stun the cop and drop BZ Gas Grenades into all four marked vents. Then, head inside the building.

GTA Online Salvage Yard Heist - The Gangbanger Robbery Finale 2

Make your way to the bullpen and look in the rooms around for the cell keys. Make sure to stun any cops you see along your way. After you’ve collected the items, make your way to the basement and play a minigame to unlock the cell area. Open King Tiny’s cell and proceed to the rear exit where you stashed the weapon cache earlier on in The Gangbanger Robbery's Weapon Stash Task. Destroy the control panel to unlock the gate.

Is GTA Online Worth Playing in 2024?

Grand Theft Auto Online is Rockstar's biggest running title, but its longevity may be worth questioning over a decade after release.

This is the point in the Salvage Yard Heist where the trick to make things easy comes in. Instead of heading out to the streets and braving the 4-star Wanted Level, escort King Tiny right back into the precinct and all the way to the staircase. Since no one will come in here, the Wanted Level will resolve itself in a couple of minutes. Once it’s done, simply go out to the getaway car and drop King Tiny off at the LSIA.

GTA Online Salvage Yard Heist - The Gangbanger Robbery Finale 3

This is the “last” leg of The Gangbanger Robbery’s finale in GTA Online. Head to the location revealed to you and eliminate all the gang members present. Steal the target car and hightail it back to the Salvage Yard to complete the job. To get the biggest amount of cash, you can either sell the car to Yusuf at the Terminal, or salvage it for parts. While it is not among the best cars to sell in GTA Online, said option nets you more bang for your buck; it’s thus the better pick.
