While Grand Theft Auto Online offered plenty of multiplayer fun for players when it first launched in 2013, one of the main reasons why the online companion to Grand Theft Auto 5 has remained so successful despite it being nearly a decade since launch is the consistent new content being brought to the game. From creating heists similar to those found in the story mode to putting Dr Dre in the game, there have been some significant updates to Grand Theft Auto Online. It seems that Rockstar doesn't intend to halt the release of these updates either. Even with the studio claiming that it is now "knee deep" in work on Grand Theft Auto 6, players of GTA Online will have a new update coming to them shortly. According to a press release from Rockstar, the latest update for GTA Online will be coming in just a "few short weeks" and it will be released on all platforms that the game is currently available on. It will expand upon the criminal career options in the game, such as the Executive, Biker, Gunrunner, and Nightclub Owner.RELATED: Red Dead Online Plans for 2022 Confirm Development is Winding DownAs well as dropping new content for the criminal side of Grand Theft Auto Online, Rockstar also teased a new career option for those who may want to fight on the side of the law rather than against it. New Contract Missions will be added to Grand Theft Auto Online, giving players the chance to join the International Affairs Agency, or IAA, as a field operative investigating a criminal conspiracy. The IAA is an intelligence agency based on the real-life CIA and NSA.

The IAA has featured in the Grand Theft Auto franchise since GTA 4, but will most likely be remembered by fans from the fifth game's story mode. Some may be disappointed to hear that Rockstar hasn't confirmed Michael as a returning character in the GTA Online update. It was rumored that Michael could be returning to Grand Theft Auto via its online mode, and while Rockstar has not announced the character to be involved, considering his connections to the IAA and FIB, it is possible that he could be in the update anyway and that the developers would like to keep it a surprise.

This would make sense given that Franklin recently returned in GTA Online's Contracts Expansion. However, considering Michael was already practically retired by the time of Grand Theft Auto 5, it is unlikely that he would appear again some years later. Alongside the new GTA Online update announcement, it was also revealed that Rockstar would be scaling back Red Dead Online updates, all but confirming the potential death of that game, something that players have already been mourning.

Grand Theft Auto Online is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
