Grand Theft Auto 5 was pretty groundbreaking back when it first launched in 2013. Not only did GTA 5 have an incredibly expansive single-player story mode, but it also changed the game when it came to its GTA Online component, a mode that's still being played avidly over a decade later. The longer GTA 5 has continued to be in the zeitgeist, the more desperate fans get for a sequel. So, for the best part of a decade now, fans have been speculating and ruminating on everything that Grand Theft Auto 6 will eventually be, continuing to build loftier expectations with each new rumor. But somehow, the Grand Theft Auto 6 official trailer has still managed to blow those rumors out of the water.

After years of waiting, Rockstar Games finally released the official Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal trailer yesterday, and it's truly a sight to behold. While GTA 6's reveal trailer was about what fans expected, with it focusing primarily on the game's main protagonists, setting, and overall atmosphere of the sequel, it still packed a huge punch, showing just how far Rockstar has come since GTA 5 a decade ago. However, there's one big factor that's putting a sad undertone on the whole reveal, and it might only be the beginning.

GTA 6 Was Revealed Under Disappointing Circumstances

An official Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal is something that fans have been talking about for almost a whole decade, and this was finally Rockstar's moment to lift the curtain, and do so however it saw fit. Rockstar set the reveal date with a simple image, an image that caused the internet to explode and is already being parodied by other brands. GTA 6's reveal is all anyone in the industry has been able to talk about since it was announced a few days ago, and December 5 was set to bring the entire gaming community together, all at the same time, to experience this one monumental moment.

Unfortunately, that was ripped away from Rockstar at the last second. Yesterday, the GTA 6 trailer was leaked online, and while Rockstar was quick to take it down, that didn't stop it from spreading like wildfire. In an attempt to get ahead of it, Rockstar decided to just release the trailer a day early. The GTA 6 reveal trailer has still been a massive success for Rockstar, but it's pretty disappointing that leaks have ruined what was going to be a shared moment for the entire gaming industry, not to mention it being a huge disappointment and barrel-load of unnecessary stress for those who have been involved with planning this reveal for who knows how long.

This Leak Will Probably Only Be the Beginning for GTA 6

Sadly, this isn't the first leak Grand Theft Auto 6 has suffered, and it almost definitely won't be the last. Last September, GTA 6 suffered a leak of monumental proportions, with whole early builds of the game leaking online. While this was devastating for Rockstar devs working on the long-awaited sequel, it did have at least some positive outcomes, with more fans than ever getting excited about the project.

When all is said and done, leaks only end up ruining the final product, both for fans and developers. With a tentative release date of 2025, it's unfortunately very likely that this is just the first in a long line of Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks, with each one probably getting progressively more spoiler-y as fans get closer to that eventual release date. While leaks are an understandably popular aspect of the gaming industry, Grand Theft Auto 6 has been officially revealed now and fans have a good idea of what they're in for.
