The Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer finally dropped after countless years of anticipation and brought with it a full minute and a half of wild content for fans to absorb and speculate on. Among the many flashy and exciting scenes in the trailer was one small glimpse at what seemed to be a familiar location from GTA: Vice City. For a few seconds, there looks to be a shot of a modern version of the Ocean View Hotel from Vice City. Not only does this suggest that other familiar locations could be featured in GTA 6, but perhaps the old Ocean View could play some new role in this current-gen Grand Theft Auto.

In Vice City, quiet moments alone can be hard to come by. That's why home bases like the Ocean View Hotel in GTA: Vice City are crucial for letting players take a moment to unwind. They're also important for gameplay, as they are the location of save points in the older GTA games and often include spawn points for certain items. Both from a game mechanic standpoint and a lore/immersion one, a safe house like the Ocean View Hotel is massively important. If the Ocean View is to return in some new form in GTA 6, there are a lot of interesting things Rockstar could do to revitalize it.

How Vice City Locations Can Return In GTA 6

The Ocean View Hotel In Vice City

In the story of GTA: Vice City, Ocean View was the temporary home for Tommy Vercetti when he was forced to head south to oversee the operations of the crime organization he was a part of. After a drug deal went wrong, Tommy had to stay in Vice City and thus extend his stay at the Ocean View Hotel. Residing directly on Vice City's version of Miami's Ocean Drive, this Art Deco hotel had plenty to offer players. From the breezy dark Art Deco lobby to the ultra 80s suite, this hotel was an essential part of introducing players to Vice City.

As the first safe house in GTA: Vice City, the Ocean View serves many purposes. Players could head downstairs to the quiet lobby to save their game or lounge in Tommy's suite, where they could change into his default outfit. As players progress through the game and collect hidden packages, new items will spawn inside the hotel. These items included:

  • Body Armor (10 Packages)
  • Chainsaw (20 Packages)
  • Colt Python (30 Packages)
  • Flamethrower (40 Packages)
  • PSG-1 (50 Packages)
  • Minigun (60 Packages)
  • Rocket Launcher (70 Packages)

The Ocean View Hotel In GTA 6

Set in the modern day, some 40 years after the events of GTA: Vice City, GTA 6 is going to feature a very different city. Though technically the classic GTA games are set in a separate universe from the modern ones, familiar locations do tend to return in a new way. This seems to be the case with the Ocean View Hotel. Much like the real-world inspiration, the Cleavelander Hotel in Miami, the Ocean View Hotel has seen some substantial renovations and modern upgrades over the years.

The Ocean View Hotel could once again serve as a safe house for the protagonists in the story, offering a place to stay and items to collect. It could also become a property for purchase in GTA Online or single-player, perhaps allowing players to charge rent and manage the business. There could even be some Easter eggs from Vice City or items to find like Tommy Vercetti's outfit, or things could be taken even further and have an old version of Tommy Vercetti there to give out missions. Whatever form it takes, seeing a modern rendition of any classic Vice City location in GTA 6 will be an exciting moment.
