New information in the Rockstar Games API may suggest an imminent drop of new Grand Theft Auto 6 images. Rockstar first revealed the blockbuster title by way of a trailer back in December 2023, which broke several major viewership records on YouTube. Five months later, fans are clamoring for more news about Grand Theft Auto 6, and their requests could be answered very soon.

GTA 6 is undoubtedly the game with the highest level of anticipation behind it. The next mainline entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is set to release 12 years after 2013's GTA 5 and takes place in the gorgeous neon-lit streets of Vice City in the Florida-inspired state of Leonida. The reveal trailer, which currently sits at over 189 million views, showed breathtakingly realistic visuals, a huge open-world sandbox, and the game's two protagonists, Lucia and Jason. The lead actors for the GTA 6 protagonists were allegedly leaked recently, but Rockstar has yet to break its silence on the matter. However, new evidence implies it might be gearing up to talk more about the game.

GTA 6's Overt Meta Narrative Should Play on Both Sides of the Fence

Grand Theft Auto 6's trailer makes references to real-world newsworthy events, but it should not stop there with its meta narrative.

A fan-made Twitter bot named when_vi that regularly scans Rockstar Games' API for mentions of GTA 6 recently discovered four new URLs on the backend that allude to new screenshots for the game, as well as a link for key art/cover art. The links all return data for GTA 6, particularly the synopsis that was released alongside the first trailer, thereby confirming their relevance to the much-awaited game. For now, opening the links results in a 404 error, meaning Rockstar hasn't uploaded anything to them yet. Speculation about GTA 6's next trailer has been growing for months, and based on this new information, it seems fans may have to wait a bit longer for that.

Rockstar's Instagram Page Offers More Clues

Supporting the notion of impending GTA 6 news is the fact that Rockstar recently scrubbed everything from its Instagram page except the posts concerning GTA 6 and the latest DLCs for GTA Online, as well as some other minor posts about GTA+ and music labels. The only other time Rockstar did this was before the release of the first trailer for GTA 6. Combined with the placeholder links and parent company Take-Two's upcoming earnings call on May 16, the odds seem to be stacking up for more insight into GTA 6 soon.

If the leak holds true, Rockstar may be releasing new screenshots of GTA 6, as well as its cover art, in roughly a week. It must be noted that GTA 6's first trailer was announced right before Take-Two's Q2 2024 earnings call in November 2023, so a pattern for the renowned developers' news cycles can possibly be discerned from this. GTA 6 is officially slated for release in 2025.
