With so many options and directions to go, it can be difficult to narrow down what players can do. While there's nearly an infinite number of ways to use the Playgrounds feature, with any number of possible builds to attempt or ideas to entertain, some basic guidance can help get an idea for using this feature to the fullest. Since there are so many ways to build in the Playgrounds, getting a basic idea and some straightforward tips the mode offers can lead the way for grand creations.

5 Supplies Are Limitless

An Endless Inventory

One of the best features Playgrounds offers is access to every item in the game. Between the various resources that players can find in the main game, machines and cosmetic items, weapons and tools, and more, the variety of what can be used in a Playground is near limitless.

With so many resources to pick from, building shops or creating detailed bases is a simple feat. Boss rush colosseums with high-end rewards, bartering systems to progress through player-made puzzles, or even trap-filled rooms with glittering prizes at the end are all easily possible. Items from both the start of the main game and rarer, later game materials are included, which is perfect for players wanting to add high-quality quest rewards to their world.

4 Access To Every Critter

All The Animals Available

Grounded Fire Damage

Along with every item in the game, all the creatures and critters found in Grounded can be used and placed in a Playground. From the angry and dangerous Red Soldier Ant to the harmless and nervous Aphid, and everything in between.

Major Grounded Update Adding Exciting New Playgrounds Feature

Obsidian Entertainment details the next substantial update for Grounded that brings new ways for players to enjoy the survival adventure game.

Beyond these bugs being included in the Playgrounds, and all the robotic creatures as well, they also feature a handy toggle option. When placed initially, these creatures have no AI, but depending on what the player decides, this can easily be turned back on and manipulated. Perfect for those wanting tremendously threatening guards or actual, living threats.

3 Design With Ease

The Freedom Of Flight

using the design mode in playgrounds

While the world of Grounded leaves players feeling very, very small, the addition of one convenient feature in the Playground makes creating and building much easier. The Handy Gnat can make building up tremendous bases a breeze, or otherwise offer a simpler overhead view.

A feature only available in the creative modes of the game, this valuable helper exists to simplify all building processes, especially those that either tower above the player or are otherwise giant builds. Being able to instantly build in any spot is wondrous in creative game modes, and the Playgrounds' design mode is no exception.

2 Making Use Of The Backyard

The Classic Map Open For Design

Grounded Ultimate Archer Build

Easily the most helpful part of the Playground feature is the option for building on two very distinct maps. For those wanting a simpler and more straightforward sandbox, the Grassbox offers a nearly blank canvas to build up. For players wanting to transform the familiar Backyard into their own creation, without any of the dangers usually found within, the aptly titled Backyard map fits in perfectly.

In Grounded, players should avoid these foods at all costs.

The Backyard map is literally the same map from the main game of Grounded, just with all the added features of the creatively minded Playgrounds mode. Any prime spot in the standard game can be transformed with ease into a mega base, a boss arena, or even entirely new campaign gameplay with a player-designed storyline.

1 Making Use Of The Grassbox

A Simple And Smaller Map

The simpler version of the Backyard, the Grassbox added in the most recent update after a massive update earlier, is essentially a greener sandbox for players wanting to build a Playground in an unobtrusive environment. Smaller and flatter than the classic map and without any creatures prowling around, the Grassbox offers a self-contained, miniature world without the wild nature of the Backyard.

Although purposefully plain, the Grassbox still has some natural features, such as caves and labs, which can help add details to the otherwise barren grass patch. The Grassbox is perfect as a starting point for players looking into the creative side of Grounded, being as close to a blank canvas as the game would allow while still nudging towards the natural oddities present in the standard map.
