Just days after its release, Obsidian Entertainment's multiplayer survival title, Grounded, has already reached over 1 million players. Grounded released on Xbox One and Windows as an early access game and is available through Xbox Game Pass as well.

To celebrate the impressive achievement, Grounded game director Adam Brennecke has shared some exciting news about the game, announcing that Grounded will be receiving monthly updates. The game is technically still in development, so it is expected that more features and improvements will be added each month now. Despite the game releasing as early access, Grounded has earned massive success on Steam and has unique gameplay aspects.

Grounded is much different than many of Obsidian Entertainment's titles. Obsidian Entertainment is known for immersive RPG titles like Outer Worlds and Pillars of Eternity, while Grounded is a lighthearted exploration game. Obsidian branching out from the company's normal blueprint has been widely well-received so far. With such an entertaining concept, it will be interesting to see what changes are made with the monthly updates.

Game Director Adam Brennecke also confirmed the first update for Grounded will release August 27th. Barely one month after the game's release, an update will release and possibly add more features. Possible additions are more enemies, or crafting items, but that hasn't been confirmed. However, it is already apparent how ambitious the developers plan to be with the announcement of monthly updates.

Grounded has many notable features, including multiplayer and even an Arachnophobia mode that lets players determine how scary spiders look, which was created based on research groups deeming the spiders too scary for some players. The various options to combat the fear of giant spiders include limiting the number of eyes, legs, eventually making them appear as blobs. The Arachnophobia mode just proves the lengths Obsidian Entertainment will go to produce an enjoyable game for all audiences.

The August update should prove to be exciting. The developers have received many requests for features in Grounded, like the ability to tame insects. Already, fans have shared impressive houses and strongholds, showing off the many possibilities when crafting in Grounded. As updates occur, the game will only grow, giving players even more ways to craft and explore the massive backyard.

Grounded is launching in 2021 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Early Access is available now for Game Pass subscribers.
