The Warner Bros-Discovery merger is complete and has led to the abrupt cancellation of some of the studio's most highly anticipated projects. However, the developing Green Lantern series appears to be safe as of now.

The recent victim of the axe from the studio was the Batgirl film, which was set to star Leslie Grace in the titular role and Michael Keaton as Batman. However, the studio revealed that the film will no longer be released to the public, and now DCEU fans everywhere are on edge, wondering if their favourite show or film franchise could be next on the chopping block.

It was revealed that a Green Lantern series is estimated to be released for streaming sometime during 2024, but fans began to worry that the series would never see the light of day. However, according to a report from TVLine, a spokesperson over at HBO Max assured fans that the Green Lantern series is “very much alive.” The project, while still in development, is set to have Greg Berlanti as the executive producer and co-writer. There have also been past reports about the cast, with American Horror Story star Finn Wittrock expected to portray the first Green Lantern, known as Guy Gardner. The show hasn’t received many concrete details regarding its release, although the news that the Green Lantern series will be making its way to the DCEU has eased the nerves of many fans who are anticipating the character's story coming to life.

While the Green Lantern is safe as of now, it was just revealed that Kevin Smith's Strange Adventures has fallen victim to the studios' cancellation spree. It has also been revealed that the CW Arrowverse will be laid to rest in 2023 when The Flash airs its final episodes. These abrupt cancellations have been a catalyst for both sadness and anger among fans, who are slowly but surely beginning to lose faith in the plans that the studio has set in motion for the future.

With emotions still high in regard to the loss of Batgirl in the DCEU, Warner Bros. Discovery has some major work to do when it comes to rebuilding some trust with its audience, which will hopefully come about when the studio releases its highly anticipated Aquaman 2 and The Flash film. Once the Green Lantern series comes, hopefully, fans will once again be fully immersed in the DCEU and excited for what's to come next from the studio.

Green Lantern is in development.
