GreedFall 2: The Dying World, Spiders' upcoming sequel to its cult-classic RPG, has officially been set for an Early Access launch sometime this summer. Based on what has been revealed so far, the game will feature a brand-new story, updated combat mechanics, new companions, and more. Of course, this is all based on how development goes during GreedFall 2's Early Access period, but Spiders has repeatedly expressed its strong desire to involve players in the development process and build a game that everyone can enjoy.

Although it is titled as a sequel, GreedFall 2: The Dying World is more accurately a prequel, as it takes place three years before the events of the first game. This means GreedFall's island of Teer Fradee will undoubtedly be quite different. While it seems the bulk of the game will not take place in Teer Fradee, GreedFall 2's protagonist is a native of the island, so there will at least be an emphasis on it at some point in the game. With GreedFall 2's Early Access launch quickly approaching, it's worth considering how its depiction of Teer Fradee will differ from the first game's, especially in light of a few details already revealed about the prequel's setting.

How GreedFall 2's Teer Fradee May Differ From GreedFall's

GreedFall's Teer Fradee Is Characterized by Colonization and Political Turmoil

At the heart of GreedFall's story are political intrigue and colonization, both of which thoroughly define the state of Teer Fradee. Teer Fradee is a lush island abounding in natural resources, which has led to various factions vying for control of it despite resistance from the island's natives, who are openly antagonistic to any foreign powers attempting to colonize their home. However, while GreedFall's conflict can be seen in the strife between the various factions attempting to seize or maintain control of it, a significant root of this ongoing war lies in the Malichor plague.

Malichor is a deadly disease in GreedFall, and it has spread so far throughout the mainland that people are forced to flee their homes. As it turns out, Teer Fradee is rumored to be home to a potential cure, which has inevitably led to increased conflict on the island as foreigners flock there in search of a way to bring an end to the plague. This was one of the personal motivations behind GreedFall's De Sardet traveling to Teer Fradee, as their mother is revealed in the game's intro as suffering from the disease. In GreedFall 2: The Dying World, however, the Malichor plague is only just spreading, which means its Teer Fradee will likely be much different as a result.

GreedFall 2's Teer Fradee Will Likely Be More Peaceful Than Its Predecessor's

In GreedFall 2's Early Access showcase during the most recent Nacon Connect event, Spiders devs revealed that the Malichor plague is spreading in the next game. If it is only just spreading, rather than already having ravaged the mainland as it had in the first game, this would mean that GreedFall 2's Teer Fradee is much less consumed by political turmoil — and perhaps not at all. In other words, GreedFall 2's Teer Fradee could very well be the peaceful and prosperous island it once was before the events of GreedFall.

The downside of GreedFall 2's Teer Fradee being a much more peaceful island is that players likely won't get to spend much time there. Spiders has already revealed that players will step into the shoes of a Teer Fradee native who has been taken from their home and sent to the Old Continent of Gacane, so Teer Fradee may only have a place in GreedFall 2's opening chapters. That being said, perhaps the story will see GreedFall 2's protagonist returning to Teer Fradee later in the story, at which point players would get to enjoy this presumably fresh depiction of the island they became familiar with in the first game.
