Contains spoilers for GreedFall.

2019's GreedFall was in many respects agreed to have been a spiritual successor to the BioWare style of open-world Western RPGs. French developer Spiders appeared to have struck a chord with fans who were looking for an experience in line with titles like Dragon Age and other similar games in the genre, as they seemed to be in somewhat short supply at the time. GreedFall's mix of an Age of Exploration period setting combined with fantasy elements and excellent character work created an all-around enjoyable title. After its success, GreedFall 2: The Dying World was announced in 2022, and GreedFall 2 is now set to be released sometime later this year as one of the more anticipated RPG titles for the year.

However, The Dying World will not be a direct continuation of the tale of the first game, but rather a prequel story. Spiders previously stated that GreedFall 2's main plot will take place about three years before the beginning of the events of the first title. Given this, it seems a natural assumption that many of the important characters and certain setups will be intimately connected to it. Along with a strong possibility of the first entry's protagonist, De Sardet, appearing in The Dying World, a closely related figure, Constantin d'Orsay, may also have cause to show up in the second title to some degree.

Though no firm date is set yet , GreedFall 2 is currently scheduled for release in 2024.

GreedFall 2 is set to arrive in 2024, and the discussion over whether its previous protagonist should make an appearance is a lively one.

GreedFall 2 Could Possibly Bring Back More Than Just De Sardet

De Sardet and Constantin in GreedFall

De Sardet was the player character in GreedFall, and their adventure began in earnest after being tasked by the Congregation of Merchants, the guild that they are a high-ranking member of, to set off for a newly discovered island in the world, Teer Fradee. The island is in the process of being colonized, and accompanying De Sardet is their royal cousin, Constantin, who has recently been appointed to a governorship over the burgeoning settlement. On top of this, a pandemic known as the Malichor sickness on the mainland is starting to seriously affect its population and operations, and is a big factor as De Sardet and Constantin search for a cure and discover its true nature and origins on Teer Fradee.

As the plot unfolds, the journey culminates in two major paths that fans could take in deciding Greedfall's ending and the fate of Constantin. After discovering the source of the disease on Teer Fradee and the corruption it originates from, players could end up as a godlike being alongside Constantin, inheriting the mystical power of Teer Fradee's spiritual guardians and claiming it as their own. Conversely, fans could eliminate Constantin and his corrupted form, freeing the island of his influence but at great personal cost to De Sardet. Both, though, provided definitive closure to the characters, and their stories are ostensibly complete.

How Constantin Might Appear in GreedFall 2

As a prequel, GreedFall 2 finds itself in a unique position, especially regarding what elements and events it will include regarding the original story. Since portions of the lore and setting have already been established, it will likely be a bit of a balancing act for the followup to incorporate them coherently without undoing or contradicting previous points. However, given the timeframe, it also wouldn't be unreasonable for either De Sardet and/or Constantin to play a part in some way, even if it is relegated more to the background.

The second title will see players taking the role of a native of Greedfall's Teer Fradee brought unwillingly to the continental capital of Gacane, where the Congregation and other important factions reside. This primes it for crossing over with the onset of the Malichor disease, as fans may witness how it began and its effects on the world prior to the start of the first game. Having Constantin appear, even if only as a brief cameo or in minor interactions, may work well to bridge aspects of both games without intruding too much on each other.

It might also be that The Dying World subverts this and focuses more majorly on Constantin in some fashion, although again, this would have to be deftly handled to avoid any narrative messiness. Regardless, Constantin was a fascinating character, and while players were shown many sides to him, there still is room to flesh him out further in the sequel and potentially tie the two titles together more strongly via his inclusion.
