Gaming fans create a live-action film centering around Grand Theft Auto 5 in virtual reality, and it stars one of the title's main characters, Trevor Philips.
The Grand Theft Auto franchise is without a doubt one of the most famous — and infamous — video game series in the history of the medium, as its over-the-top nature has been parodied and referenced in innumerable pieces of pop culture. For instance, the open world crime game has been given nods in films like The Simpsons Movie wherein Homer plays an arcade stand-up machine called Grand Theft Walrus, and it even cropped up in a Chappelle's Show sketch which has Dave Chappelle mimicking and having fun with the Rockstar Games release's ideas of general lawlessness.
Bearing in mind those major properties' usage of Grand Theft Auto for inspiration, the most recent installment in the series, GTA 5, has also stimulated the creative juices of the fans themselves to use the game as a reference point. As a matter of fact, the YouTube channel Corridor recently shot, produced, and uploaded a live-action short called GTA VR which features the actor Steven Ogg reprising his role as the game's lewd, crude, and utterly insane main character Trevor Philips.
As seen in the video from Corridor below, the plot of the GTA VR short film revolves around a man receiving a pair of the world's most advanced virtual reality glasses, which ultimately transports him to a version of Grand Theft Auto 5's Los Santos. It's there that he is taken through the game's tutorial filled with absolute mayhem with Trevor leading the way.

Whether it's the dialogue, the video effects, or the acting from Steven Ogg and Sunny Jain, the production value on GTA VR is remarkably high, and the whole clip is incredibly well done. Not only does it perfectly encapsulate Grand Theft Auto's urgent and cartoonish chaos with nods to the base game and its mods such as the Iron Man suit, but also it provides food for thought as to whether or not the world in which we reside could actually be some sort of dream or a form of virtual reality itself.
Beyond GTA VR's conceits, it's entirely possible in this day and age for one to experience Grand Theft Auto 5 in virtual reality thanks to its current generation platform port's first-person mode. While it's nowhere close the the realism depicted in the above video, the experience is definitely interesting to say the least.
As far as the future of Grand Theft Auto is concerned, it seems as if Rockstar Games has yet another sequel in mind, as a source close to the developer confirmed not too long ago that GTA 6 is currently in development. With this being the case, it's safe to say that with another Grand Theft Auto title on the horizon, we will be privy to plenty more fan-made materials inspired by the games in the future.
