Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition's launch week has been rife with controversy. Issues with the GTA Trilogy's visuals and performance on consoles have been heavily criticized on social media. But it was PC players the GTA Trilogy that have had the worst experience, as Rockstar pulled the game bundle from storefronts as it patched out unlicensed music and other inappropriate content. For better or worse, Rockstar has now completed its edits and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is available once more.
In a message shared on social media, Rockstar confirmed that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is returning to the Rockstar Games Launcher on PC. Alongside the confirmation of the GTA Trilogy's re-release, Rockstar also issued an apology, saying that it's sorry for the "inconvenience." Those who have previously purchased the GTA Trilogy should now be able to start the game, and those interested in buying it will once again have the option to via Rockstar's official storefront.
Rockstar makes no mention of removing unlicensed music or any other files from Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition on PC. All it says is that the game has been updated, which has led to it being available once more. It will take some time before dataminers are able to confirm what Rockstar removed from the game prior to its re-release.
While Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is once again available on PC, Rockstar also says that it's not finished working on the game. It specifically notes that it has plans to improve the GTA Trilogy's "overall performance" going forward. A timeline for these improvements isn't available, nor is a more specific list of planned improvements. While Rockstar has gotten the GTA Trilogy available once more on PC, it's clearly not fully content with the state of the game.
All in all, it's somewhat underwhelming of a conclusion to what's been a surprisingly major controversy. A Rockstar Grand Theft Auto game launched and was completely unavailable to players for several days. Then, for its return, Rockstar simply sent out a Twitter message apologizing for the inconvenience.
Rockstar, like many Grand Theft Auto fans, appears ready to put the entire situation behind it. The game is now playable and, for better or worse, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition won't be significantly changing from what it is.
