Grand Theft Auto Online players are incredibly creative, as fans of the game have found ways to keep themselves entertained for over seven years now. The latest distraction comes in the form of a hilarious Grand Theft Auto Online cosplay, as it sees two players dressing up as the Super Mario Bros.
Oddly enough, this is not the first Mario and GTA connection. Back in 2017, a modder managed to put Mario into Grand Theft Auto 4. They then recreated an entire Super Mario Odyssey trailer inside the GTA game, which was a memorable sight to say the least. However, the latest Mario and Grand Theft Auto crossover is a bit less absurd, as it sees two dedicated fans dressing up as Mario and his brother Luigi.
The cosplay was posted by a Redditor named nderestimatedPower, and it sees the duo posing in front of Los Santos’ iconic Vinewood sign. Sure enough, the two look the part, with both donning overalls and white gloves. Green and red shirts are worn by the pair, with matching hats to complete the inspired in-game look. With the player dressed as Luigi even wielding a huge wrench, the eye for detail is impressive and is a great way to help celebrate the final months of Mario’s anniversary.
One detail that can be missed in the cosplay is the bike Mario and Luigi are riding on. It seems that, instead of getting excited over GTA Online’s huge new heist, the players were making sure every aspect of the cosplay made sense. As mentioned in the title of the post, Yoshi can be seen in the cosplay somewhere, and sure enough, he can be. However, instead of an adorable dinosaur-like creature, Yoshi is the colorful scooter the players are riding.
The two crafty players received a warm welcome on the r/gtaonline subreddit, a similar reception to what they would likely receive in GTA Online’s new nightclub. Aside from players saying how "great" the look is, a few had clever suggestions for more pics. A Redditor named Johnnyg5150 said that the duo should “do this but with waluigi and wario,” only to get a reply from the original poster that no purple hat has been found thus far. Another request would see the Mario Brothers “find the dinosaur” by Rex’s diner, using the statue in place of King Koopa.
While it is unclear if nderestimatedPower and his buddy will return for any more photos, the cosplay was a pleasant surprise for many people scrolling through Reddit yesterday. However, with players believing they found a GTA 6 tease in the latest trailer for GTA Online, it may not be long before Mario and Luigi cosplayers are seen in a new city.
Grand Theft Auto Online is now available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, while a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S update coming later in 2021.
