The online experience of Grand Theft Auto 5 has grown to become one of the most defining elements of the 2013 release, with the recent meteoric rise of GTA Online RP servers playing a huge role in this.

It is clear to see why so much anticipation is already building around the online mode of Grand Theft Auto 6, and it would make sense for Rockstar to lean more heavily into the best parts of GTA Online for this upcoming experience. Grand Theft Auto 6 Can Take GTA Online's RP Servers To the Next Level

GTA Online first found popularity as a bombastic multiplayer experience that heavily leaned into the sandbox chaos of the franchise, giving players free roam to cause havoc in Los Santos by any means necessary. The mode initially kept players engaged through its level progression and eventual heists, allowing fans to work their way up through the criminal underworld to the point of owning a wide range of weapons, cars, and luxury apartments.

While post-launch updates have added to this experience over the years, players inevitably grew tired of the base gameplay of GTA Online, with the community taking matters into their own hands to create an entirely new experience within the mode. This took the form of RP servers for GTA Online which, while existing to some extent as far back as GTA 4, really rose to mainstream prominence around 2016.

This came hand in hand with the rise of mods for GTA Online on PC, where new frameworks like FiveM completely rewrote what players were capable of creating in-game. RP servers quickly began drawing large crowds of players yearning for a new GTA Online experience away from the uncontrolled chaos of standard gameplay, with popular YouTubers and streamers flocking to the mode and only boosting its popularity further. While the current RP experience of GTA Online is impressive, the possibilities of what the mode could be with official support from Rockstar is deeply exciting, and GTA 6 provides the perfect opportunity to finally explore this.

People are already expecting the scale of Grand Theft Auto 6 to exceed that of GTA 5, with popular rumors circulating that the game will explore a variety of main locations alongside its core setting of Vice City. It is logical to assume that this scale would extend to GTA 6's take on the franchise's iconic multiplayer, and official RP servers would take the mode to even greater heights while making it more accessible for console players.

While many are expecting Grand Theft Auto 6 to feature its own official RP servers following Rockstar's acquisition of Cfx.re, this has not been confirmed by Rockstar.

Rockstar Should Not Forget the Roots of GTA RP within Grand Theft Auto 6

Rockstar could work with the minds behind the most popular GTA Online RP servers like NoPixel to preserve the identity of GTA RP while creating a positive bridge between the developers and the community. With RP servers then potentially allowing players to create an entirely separate character from their standard GTA 6 online character with its own progression system, the amount of jobs and RP opportunities would be greatly increased with Rockstar's involvement.

While it is important that GTA 6's online experience should maintain the classic chaos of standard GTA Online gameplay, the additional presence of an official RP mode would be a fantastic addition to the game. This would be a direct nod from Rockstar to one of the most surprisingly popular elements of GTA Online, and giving direct support to the masterminds behind GTA 5's RP with developer influence would create an even larger world of possibilities for role playing in Grand Theft Auto 6.
