Grand Theft Auto 5 has cheats for players that know how to use them, and a few can be remarkably useful when applied. Of course, players don't need to use cheats in order to complete the game; otherwise they wouldn't be hidden. Even so, messing around with cheats is a fun way to get more out of a game, especially when the cheats do something extraordinary. At the same time, sometimes a cheat can pull the player out of a bad situation. Fortunately for those players, Grand Theft Auto 5's selection of cheats has some real lifesavers.

There have been a lot of cheats in Grand Theft Auto games over the years, which feels fitting for the series' criminal focus. While there have been the expected cheats like god mode and cash bonuses, there have also been times where GTA cheats went in bizarre directions. GTA: San Andreas had a code that made all pedestrians permanently armed and hostile, meaning simply navigating San Andreas was a fight for survival. Past GTA games also had codes to let cars drive on water, or even fly making boats and planes almost unnecessary. GTA cheats can be weird and wild, and that makes them great.

GTA 5's Cheats Can Make the Game a Breeze

The strongest cheats are those that would let players breeze through Grand Theft Auto 5's story missions. Invincibility is an obvious example of a cheat that completely turns the game in the player's favor. Completely nullifying any damage done to the player makes every firefight in the game simply a matter of time unless the player has to keep another NPC safe. Even if a player isn't using invincibility, they can use other cheats to refill their health, armor, and ammo after or even during a fight. These cheats ensure that the player stays alive and fully equipped, two necessities in Grand Theft Auto 5.

Some cheats can offer players a lot of power while also incredibly fun in the process. Grand Theft Auto's penchant for chaos is well sated by the Explosive Melee and Explosive Weapons cheats. These cheats generate explosions every time the player throws a punch or fires a gun, respectively. Not only is the explosion lethal, but its force throws around people and objects nearby as well. Combining these cheats with Invincibility practically turns the GTA 5 trio into superheroes. Another cheat in the same vein is Flaming Bullets, which is slightly less powerful, but has the potential to turn firefights into raging infernos.

There are a few more cheats that are great for general utility in-game, while not as powerful as those mentioned above. Those worried about getting wasted by GTA 5's cops can use the Lower Wanted Level cheat to take off some heat. In addition, invincibility and exploding bullets aren't much good in the middle of nowhere, so there are also several cheats that can spawn all sorts of vehicles. The selection includes BMX, a Caddy, a Buzzard, and more, ensuring that they player always has a ride. For a funnier method of travel, players can also use Skyfall to fly a surprisingly long distance before slamming into the ground.

Grand Theft Auto 5's cheats did a lot to spice up the game, and hopefully Grand Theft Auto 6 will be able to offer something similar. Cheats are practically a tradition in Grand Theft Auto, so it would be disappointing if GTA 6 didn't include some of its own. Grand Theft Auto 5 showed that cheats still have a place in modern gaming, since they can not only be useful, they can shake up the game as well. For the time being, fans can keep on using Grand Theft Auto 5's cheats to wreak havoc across Los Santos.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
