Fans only really know that the game will feature two protagonists in the familiar location of Vice City, and a lot of theories have predictably spread like wildfire that attempt to shed more light on what the title's narrative will hold.

One of the most prominent theories surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 concerns the male protagonist of the game, believed to be called Jason, with the theory suggesting that he may actually be an undercover police officer. The concept of Grand Theft Auto 6 featuring two protagonists has been known for some time, with the high-profile leaks that surrounded the project in 2022 all but confirming this. Jason and Lucia will be at the helm of the release, and leading theories point towards GTA 6's two protagonists being in a complex relationship that is interwoven with a life of crime.

Lucia, the first major female protagonist for a GTA title, was the focal point of the massively popular reveal trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 in December 2023, with the trailer throwing even more question marks around Jason's involvement in the title. The trailer showed Lucia in prison, with the official art for GTA 6 showing her wearing an ankle monitor, so fans already know that her involvement in the criminal underworld is very real.

The same cannot be said for Jason, however, with many fans already positing that he could be an undercover cop throughout GTA 6's story. It will be hard to keep this aspect of Jason a secret given how he is expected to be a playable protagonist, but with Lucia seemingly being GTA 6's main character out of the two of them, the twist should be seen at the same time as her. In this way, Jason's undercover antics could occur during the sequences where the player controls Lucia, with his true nature being just as big of a surprise to the player as it is to her.

The potential game mechanics a police protagonist could bring are exciting, such as bypassing wanted levels and having access to unique equipment, but the story element of this twist will be its most important aspect. The bond between Lucia and Jason seems extremely important, and the narrative weight that his true identity may hold should be revealed once the player truly understands the relationship between the pair to twist the knife further.
